All the renowned classic texts of Ayurveda like Charaka Samhita (1000 B.C.), Sushruta Samhita (600 B.C.) and subsequent works refer to this disorder under the term Madhumeha (meaning sugar in the urine). (SCE-100 mg/kg) caused a significant decrease in the

blood glucose level in diabetic rats. The effect was 15better than glibenclamide (600 µg/kg).

There have been no adverse side effects

associated with consumption of Syzygium cumini

The animal studies do not seem to indicate any

major adverse effects associated with the use of

Syzygium cumini seed extract.

Moreover, Syzygium cumini has a long history of

Syzygium cumini is official in Ayurvedic

Pharmacopoeia of India. It is also listed in, German

Commission E monograph, MHRA-UK, Herbs of
