Stanhope Primary School to Celebrate 100 years
At a recent meeting of interested Stanhope residents, it was decided to prepare for the holding of a celebration to mark the centenary of the Stanhope Primary School in October next year, 2016. A small committee was formed and they will work together with the school’s parent group as a working committee. Many others at the meeting showed interest in providing support and assistance in making this celebration a major event for Stanhope. Yes – You can Help It is a fair way off until October next year, but you all know how time flies when you are trying to organize a large event. To make this celebration one of the largest events in Stanhope for many, many years, your help is needed – NOW How can you help? By writing on a piece of paper the names of former pupils and staff, their contact details, eg. Name and Present Address, Phone Number and Email Address also (This would be a great help) Place your information in an envelope and mark it “School Info” and drop it into the Stanhope Business Centre (if closed, put it through the letter flap in the door). Better still, if you can email your information to [email protected] that would be much appreciated.
Auskick Mums take to the Field
On Thursday 28th May our mothers donned their footy colours and took to the field to conduct our Auskick session. The mums put the kids through many different drills, which tested all their various skills and abilities, and would have left some of our best AFL coaches in awe. After the session the mums sat down in the social rooms and enjoyed a delicious meal kindly prepared by Carol Nurse with some help from some of the dads who were looking rather dapper in their bow ties. The night was a great success and once again shows through hard work by our parents, football/netball club and the Stanhope Community, why our junior football and netball programs are continuing to grow and attract much attention from the broader community.

STANHOPE VICTORIA
“Stanhope’s “Shaque-A-Taque” re opens
Belinda and Ken at the opening of “Shaque-A-Attack.
Following the disastrous fire which destroyed the original “Shaque-A-Attack” (formerly Hepples Emporium) just prior to Christmas 2013, the new building was officially opened on 2nd May, before a large interested group of locals and visitors. Ken Harrison and his business partner, Belinda Sharples, have worked tirelessly since the fire to rebuild their business in a new building, which bears no resemblance, externally, to the former building which was destroyed in the fire. Guest speakers, Cr Adrian Weston on behalf of the Campaspe Shire, Bob Holschier (Stanhope Community) and Kevin Livingstone (Bendigo Community Bank) all heaped praise on both Ken and Belinda for their determination and hard work in restoring their business and bringing back to Stanhope a major attraction which should attract visitors from wide and far. The internal area of the building includes a number of small spaces, (named after some of the original Stanhope businesses) which have been made available to local handy persons to display their wares. It also includes many displays and water features, similar to those in the previous building. Most of these features have been designed and built by Ken and Belinda. They are now carrying out further work to develop a Wine Bar and small Conference Centre. Further work on the external area will provide facilities for some old fashioned games, including Quoits and Hop Scotch. Ken and Belinda invite anyone to drop in and inspect their business in Birdwood Avenue and discuss their plans for future development.
Biggest Morning Tea
Dale-Maree addressing the well attended
morning tea
The Stanhope senior Citizens held a very
successful “Biggest Morning Tea” last week,
raising $418.00 for cancer research
Guest speaker for the morning was Dale-Maree
Florence from Kyabram Community Health
Cancer Screening Project who was very pleased
to have the opportunity to speak at Stanhope’s
Biggest Morning Tea.
She explained to those present the importance of
being proactive with our health and utilising
available screening methods for Bowel, Breast
and Cervical Cancers. Her project will run until
mid 2016 and during this time she hopes to
continue to engage with community members and
receive valuable feedback and ideas.
Overall the Project hopes to develop strategies to
increase participation in Mammograms, Pap
Tests and the National Bowel Cancer Screening
Program. If anyone would like any further
information Dale-Maree can be contacted on
58570321 or [email protected]

Dr Townsend Commences Practice in
Stanhope Dr Nicole Townsend commenced practise
in Stanhope on Tuesday 5th May
Dr Nicole Townsend on her first day at Stanhope
Dr Townsend, from Bendigo, will be seeing patients at Stanhope every Tuesday. She will be working through the Kyabram Regional Clinic on that day, but will be working with a Bendigo clinic on other days, where she has been practicing for the past five years. Dr Townsend is married to husband Mick, who is a carpenter. They have two daughters Lily 13 and Ella 10. She is very much a country girl, growing up on a farm at Casterton in the western district and attending the Casterton High School before going to Melbourne, where she was involved in the IT industry for more than 12 years. She then moved to Adelaide, where she took the opportunity to study medicine, a life long dream of hers. After graduating, she and her family moved to Bendigo, where she took up a position with the Bendigo clinic. Being a country person she is very easy to talk to and is extremely keen to meet people from the local district when she is at Stanhope every Tuesday. To make an appointment to see Dr Townsend it is necessary to phone the Kyabram Regional Clinic on 5852 1888.
Letter to the Editor Dear Editor Victorians will be surprised to hear that Daniel Andrews' Youth Affairs Minister doesn't think that youth unemployment is her problem. The Minister refused to answer questions in parliament this week on the grounds it was a "macro-economic question" and had nothing to do with her youth portfolio. Try telling that to the thousands of young people who are looking for work. It's astounding that the Minister for Youth Affairs is trying to wipe her hands of a critical issue involving our young people. Back in Opposition, Daniel Andrews used to treat youth unemployment as a youth affairs issue. But not now.
Once again, we see Daniel Andrews and his Labor mates saying one thing before the election and doing another thing after. Young Victorians deserve better.
Regards, Steph Ryan Deputy Leader of The Nationals Shadow Minister for Training, Skills, Apprenticeships

Steven’s Antics Watering system fixed ?
You know, for some time I have been a bit worried about our little park, McEwen Place, in the middle of the town. It’s a place I hang out at a lot, cos there are often visitors there having a cuppa and they often give me something to eat. They are always amazed I’m such a friendly bird. Well, for some time I have noticed the watering system keeps working almost every night and the grass grows so much my mate Mark is flat out trying to keep it cut nice and short, especially on the verge where he can’t really operate his big mower very well. So the other day when a plumber turned up to fix it, I thought i had better keep an eye on him and make sure he was doing it properly. He was a nice bloke cos he also gave me something to eat, while I sat on his truck and watched him do the job. So now I hope it works OK, cos I might get the blame if it doesn’t.

Projects commence at Whroo Cemetery
Following the granting of permits, the Whroo Cemetery Trust has moved quickly, before wet weather commences, to prevent further water being able to cascade across the cemetery, which for many years has eroded graves, pathways and undermined headstones. To prevent any further damage the Trust arranged with Parks Victoria to provide a drain and build a small levy bank on the high side of the cemetery to prevent the entry of water into the cemetery from the adjoining hillside. With the cooperation of the recently appointed Ranger Team Leader from the Bendigo office of Parks Victoria, Mathew Sobey, a grader was brought on to the site recently and carried out the necessary work. A small grant received. A small grant has been received by the Trust from the Division of Cemeteries and Crematoria to further upgrade the pathways in the cemetery. This will involve the spreading of gravel where the paths have been eroded over the years. Trust Chairman, Bob Holschier, said the Trust was delighted with the close cooperation of Parks Victoria and receiving the grant, so we can now continue the work of upgrading the cemetery. Local gravel required Mr Holschier said the Trust would like to hear from anyone who may be able to supply a load of local Rushworth gravel for the pathways. “We do not want to use bluestone or white gravel, as neither of these gravels fit in with the heritage style of the cemetery”, he said.
