There is a beautiful old story about Zacchaeus, the tax collector. It tells how in later years, he rose early every morning and left his house. His wife, curious, followed him one morning. At the town well he filled a bucket, and he walked until he came to a sycamore tree. There, set- ting down the bucket, he began to clear away the stones, the branches, and the rubbish from around the base of the tree. Having done that, he poured water on the roots and stood there in silence, gently caressing the trunk with both of his hands. When his amazed wife came out of hiding and asked what he was doing, Zacchaeus replied simply, "This is where I found Christ." I can just imagine that for the rest of their lives, that woman who touched the hem of Jesus' robe that day on the street and the daughter of Jairus who was raised up in that room in her home, continually brought people back to those sacred spots and said, "This is where I found Christ! This is where Christ’s love brought me back to life!" Do you have a sacred spot like that? Surely this is the Good News of our Christian Faith, isn't it? Love has the power to heal, to reconcile, and to redeem. Today we make contact with the risen, glorified Christ, in and through the community of the Church, as it exists now in time and space as the Spirit-filled Body of Christ. As we obey the commands of Jesus, our prayer is that our Church is a place where each individual can encounter hope, love and God. God’s presence is everywhere. Mass is my favourite place to come into His presence. Each part of the liturgy helps us experience a personal encounter with Jesus. Our Church is a foundational place to develop this relationship with Jesus. Our daily and Sunday Masses in our Parish are a source of strength and blessing as Christ- encounter moments and family celebrations for us. We come from our different families to the Church where we meet, gather and celebrate the Eucharist as one family of God. How won- derful! I always like to think that the Mass also invites us to give thanks to God for our lives, pray for our families or deceased loved ones, listen to God or speak to Him, to pray for those in need around us. In a world where there is so much noise, bad news, distractions, busyness, stress and so many voices clamouring for our attention, we need this extraordinary time with God. The Eucharist is a banquet to which Jesus has personally invited each of us. I would like to invite you and your family to our weekday masses. In our parish we have only one weekday mass at St. Michael’s Church Kilcoy that on Wednesday at 8.00 am. I had a chat with some of our parishioners and many of them believe that it is a good idea to change the current Mass time 8.00 am to 5.00pm. In consultation with our Parish pastoral council, I have changed the Wednesday morning Mass to be Wednesday 5.00 pm. I hope this change will help to increase the Mass attendance. Blessings, Fr.
