Early Admission GuidelinesThank you for your interest in early admissions courses! Below you will find all information needed to enroll in early admissions courses at your high school or NMSU Carlsbad campus.

Eligibility Must have a 2.0 or higher cumulative GPA. Must be enrolled in a home school program. Must have permission from parents/guardians.

Admissions Have you taken college courses

• Yes-You will not need a new admissions application (*Note: If it has been longer than a year since you’ve taken a dual credit course, you will need an admissions application)

• No- Please fill out an admissions application

Registration To enroll, submit dual credit packet during the college registration period with the following documentation:

• NMSU Carlsbad admission application( if needed)• Early Admissions registration form with course request and all necessary signatures• Home school transcript

Requests to change courses must be approved by the appropriate college representatives, and processed according to college registration deadlines.

Courses Check your course prerequisites. Some courses, you will need to meet our Math, English or Reading ACCUPLACER

score requirements. Please check your course prerequisites, and then compare your test scores to the table below.• QUALIFING MINIMUM TEST SCORES

o ACT: (Writing 16 or higher), (Reading 21 or higher), (Math 16 or higher)o ACCUPLACER: (Writing 75 or higher), (Reading 74 or higher), (Elementary Algebra 66 or

higher) Cannot audit a college class

Costs Tuition is waived Required textbooks are covered by the high school, and students must return them to their high school at the

Welcome to NMSU‐Carlsbad!

Before you can access your student information, or log onto an NMSU Carlsbad computer, you’ll need to activate your account. To do so, just follow these simple steps.

• Step 1: Use your Internet browser to open my.nmsu.edu. o Here you’ll see the MyNMSU login page. Click on the link that says "First Time User".

• Step 2: Enter your Aggie ID number, and your date of birth into the proper fields, and then click Submit. o If your Aggie ID does not work, try using your Social Security number instead with out dashes.

• Step 3: Click I Accept to accept the Policies and Guidelines of use. • Step 4: Create your username.

o Your username must be between 2 and 8 characters long, and may contain numbers, but may not start with a number. All letters in your username must be lowercase, and you may not use spaces or dashes. Once you have created your username, click Continue.

• Step 5: Create your password. o Follow the guidelines to to create a strong password. Be sure to include an upper case characters, lower case characters, a

number from 0-9, and then click Submit. • Step 6: This screen will give you: Your NMSU email address, NMSU user name, and NMSU password.

o Please make sure to write down this information, or take a picture, or screen shot. Then, click Continue. • Step 7: This is your campus emergency notifications and emergency contact information.

o Change your campus to only Carlsbad and select how you would like to be notified if there is an emergency. Type the phone number and select how you want to be notified (a phone call or text notification). Scroll down to the bottom of the screen and read this contact information carefully to verify that all the displayed information is correct. Once it is correct, click Continue.

• Step 8: The system will prompt you to wait 5 minutes for your account to be created. o In the following window click on the “Click Here” link to return to the NMSU login page.

• Step 9: Sign in with your user name and password. o Once you are in, click on Password Management tab.

• Step 10: Set up your Password Reset Questions: These questions are used to recover your password should you forget it. o Fill out all three security questions and answers- these questions and answers should be easy for you to remember. Then click

the Save button. Your answers ARE case sensitive. • Step 11: Click on Take me to myNMSU • Step 12: From the Home menu, click on the Office 363 (Email), then from the Office 365 Applications’ Screen, click on Mail.

o Select the time zone (Mountain Time) and click on Save. This step allows you to set up your NMSU student’s email. NOTE: If you don’t set up these questions, you CAN NOT recover your password yourself—you will have to call ICT Las Cruces.

• Follow the guidelines on this screen to set up correctly your questions and answers. o Be 8-16 characters o NOT contain your myNMSU username or more than two consecutive characters of your username o NOT contain spaces or non-English characters •Contain AT LEAST one lowercase letter o Contain AT LEAST one UPPERCASE letter •Contain AT LEAST one of the following: 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 ! ( ) _ + - { } | [ ] If

your password does not follow these guidelines, it will not be accepted and you will have to come up with another password.

Accessing Your Student Accounts

Activate and create your student account- You will need to create your myNMSU username and password to login to your myNMSU, Canvas, Email and student computers. Your account will be created approximately 12 hours after you are admitted as a student. Please follow the instructions attached.

myNMSU -will allow access to view your unofficial transcripts, request official transcripts, view your schedule, and billing information. You can access myNMSU at https://my.nmsu.edu/

Canvas- is an online learning system used by instructors to post the course syllabus, lecture notes, grades, etc. Online course will be accessed through Canvas. You can access Canvas at https://learn.nmsu.edu/ Email- will be your primary means of communication from the college and your instructors. To access your email, login to myNMSU and click on the blue icon, located on the left hand side of the myNMSU portal under QuickLaunch Navigation or you can access at https://mail.nmsu.edu/

Microsoft Office Pro Plus Software (free)- software is free to all active NMSU students. This Student Advantage Program includes full versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and more! Download on up to 5 computers and mobile devices. You can access the steps on how to download at http://studenttech.nmsu.edu/files/2014/01/Instructions-for-proplus-download.pdf

Student computers- may be used in any of the NMSU Carlsbad computer labs.
