(610) 987-4050 Purpose: To start the Evaporator System for normal operation. Required PPE: Safety Glasses Hearing Protection Steel Toed Shoes Nitrile Gloves Potential Hazards: In the automatic mode the equipment may start without warning. Keep hands clear unless the unit is locked out in a safe condition. Fall hazard exists on ladder and the raised platform. Use three-point contact when climbing up to or down from the platform. The vessels, heat exchangers and piping for have hot surfaces which could cause burns. Avoid contact with these hot surfaces. Purpose: To start the Evaporator System for normal operation.

Required PPE:

Safety Glasses

Hearing Protection

Steel Toed Shoes

Nitrile Gloves

Potential Hazards:

In the automatic mode the equipment may start without warning. Keep hands clear unless the unit is locked out in a safe condition.

Fall hazard exists on ladder and the raised platform. Use three-point contact when climbing up to or down from the platform.

The vessels, heat exchangers and piping for have hot surfaces which could cause burns. Avoid contact with these hot surfaces.

Steps Key Points

Line up Cooling Tower Water Note: if the cooling tower is already in operation, proceed to the next section.

1. Turn CONTROL POWER Switch ON at the Main control panel.

2. Verify that Green CONTROL POWER light is lit.

3. Wait for HMIs to boot up.

4. Turn on Disconnect Switch for COOLING TOWER PUMP.

Steps Key Points

5. Turn on Disconnect Switch for COOLING TOWER FAN.

6. Press the START button on the CT Fan Controller to start the controller.

7. At the Concentrator HMI (Page 2) turn on the cooling tower water:

a. Turn on CONDENSER WATER PUMP.

b. Turn on COOLING TOWER PUMP.

c. Turn on COOLING TOWER (fan).

Steps Key Points

Start the Seal Water System Note: if the seal water system is already in operation, proceed to the next section.

8. At the Stripper HMI (Page 2) turn on the WATER SEAL PUMP.

9. Verify water seal return flow to tank.

10. Inspect stripper system pumps for seal water leaks.

11. Remove and inspect filter screen.

12. Clean screen if any debris or foreign material is found.

13. Open Recovery Water Valve.

14. At the Stripper HMI (Page 1) Start the FEED PUMP.

15. Wait 10 seconds before proceeding.

16. Start the 1ST EFFECT EXTRACT PUMP.

17. Start the 2nd EFFECT EXTRACT PUMP.

18. Verify that the vacuum break valve is closed.

19. At the Stripper HMI (Page 2) Start the VACUUM PUMP.

20. Start the ESSENCE VACUUM PUMP.

Steps Key Points

21. Verify that system is building vacuum. Gauge should read at least 10 inHg. Before continuing to the next step.

22. Start the HOT WATER PUMP at the Evap System HMI.

23. Verify that injection water supply valve is open.

24. Visually inspect heat exchanger for leaks.

25. Set injection spray water valve to 45-degree position as shown.

26. Open spray heater water supply valve.

27. Prime the fluid column to ensure there is a level visible in the sight glass.

a. 1ST EFFECT COND PUMP

b. 2ND EFFECT COND PUMP

c. SPRAY HEATER EXTRACT PUMP

d. CONDENSOR EXTRACT PUMP

e. ESSENCE COND PUMP

33. Open condensate valve to drain water from the system

34. Close valve when only steam is present.

35. Adjust STRIPPER STEAM SUPPLY PRESSURE setpoint to 20 PSI:

36. Turn STEAM VALVE on.

37. Open the manual inlet valve to balance tank.

38. Adjust flow rate and 1st stage vacuum to as needed to achieve desired brix.
