Startup: Current Event• Read the article entitled: “For Stem Cells, a Role
on the Battlefield”• Write one paragraph summary. Include the title
of the article, the author, and where the article comes from. Your paragraph should be minimum 5-7 sentences long.
• Write one paragraph reaction to the article. Explain your opinion and refer back to the article at least three times. Your paragraph should be minimum 5-7 sentences long.
Hagen’s 5 Rules to Making an Outline
1. Read before you outline.
2. Use two colors.
3. Skip lines b/w notes (double space).
4. Leave space in the left hand margin.
5. You must include pictures when appropriate.
Startup: Making an Outline• Open your textbook to Chapter
35, Section 1. (Need page #? Use the table of contents)
• Begin reading, silently.• If you finish early, take out a
clean piece of paper and write a 2-3 sentence brief overview of the entire section.
• Turn in your signed syllabus.
Startup: What do you know?
• On your own, write down as many body organs that you can think of (min 5)– For each organ, write down what you think it does
(it’s purpose or function)
• Now discuss your answers with your table group. – Make a list of all of the organs that you came up
with along with your thoughts on their purpose or function (min: 5)
– The group with the highest number of correct organs will earn 5 bonus points!!
