Welcome to A Celebration of Song – Our 35th Fall Conference!ACDA of Minnesota’s 2011 state conference, A Celebration of Song, will mark the 35th time that the Minnesota choral community has gathered annually to be enlightened, informed and inspired! This state conference marks an official event in our 50th anniversary year with special activities celebrating ACDA-MN’s inspirational presence and leadership in the land of 10,000 choirs!

A Celebration of Song brings together nationally and internationally renowned clinicians to lead us in a true CELEBRATION of choral music at EVERY LEVEL and AREA throughout our state. We welcome Judy Bowers, John Yarrington, and Weston Noble as they headline the first day. You will not want to miss their sessions! An outstanding full day of Friday interest sessions and clinic performances concludes with an inspiring concert session in the stunning acoustic of Christ Chapel on the campus of Gustavus Adol-phus College in St. Peter. For our elementary music specialists and children’s choir directors, Saturday

brings an insightful panel discussion moderated by Kari Werdahl. Come share your thoughts as we plan ACDA-MN’s future role in maintaining and promoting significant and life-changing musical opportunities for our children. Saturday also contains a multi-voiced reading session led by Eugene Rogers. On both days you will hear rousing and memorable performances from sing-ers representing choirs from throughout our state. And who could forget our incredible honor choir program – featuring three outstanding conductors and over 425 auditioned voices from grades 4 through 8.

What I wrote for the 2010 Fall Conference brochure still rings true, if not more so for this 2011 Fall Conference and our 50th Anniversary events: “While we enjoy this opportunity to celebrate choral music in our great state, let us not forget what may be the most important benefit of any professional conference: time to connect with our wonderful ACDA colleagues. Indeed, our membership is our strength and our strength is our membership.”

See you in St. Peter this November!

Once a state heavily influenced by the cultures of Northern European immigrants, we now find our region experiencing a new influx of immigrants coming from many different parts of the world with unique and interesting cultural backgrounds. As choral music educators, we must find ways to welcome these singers, and incorporate our methodology in order to meet the needs of these new members of our changing and divergent society.
