Graph 78. Assessment of air quality in 2009 by applying the AQI_S_07
4.1 Air
Introduction
As regards air quality, 2009 is marked by dynamic activities of harmonization of local practice with the EU regulations. Two developments dominated: continuation of activities of EU harmonization and drafting of new secondary legislation and next, keeping up the activities of establishment of air quality monitoring in conformity with the EU practice. In 2009 air quality monitoring was performed in accordance with the old regulations, as in the previous years. This report is based on thus obtained data.
Key messages
The state of air quality in 2009 does not differ considerably from the state in the previous years;
Assessment of air quality in 2009 in urban and industrial zones shows that particulate matter pollution had a prevailing influence on air quality;
In 2009 activities aimed at the establishment of the National Automatized Air Quality Monitoring System were successfully resumed;
Concentrations of the surface ozone increased in 2009 in comparison with the previous years;
In 2009 the trend of reducing the annual consumption of ОDS substances continued.

Air and Climate Water quality Biodiversity Soil and Agriculture Waste and Material Flows Forests, hunting and fishing Renewable resources Economic and Social Pressures Environmental Financing Implementation of legislation
Structure and contentWater Quality: Nutrients and oxygen-consuming substances in rivers
Key message: The analysis of the trends of concentrations of these parameters by using the non-parameter Mann-Kendall test (=0,05) has shown that for the BOD5 parameter there is no important decreasing or increasing trend of the growth of concentration (insignificant trend) for the water areas of the Danube and the Morava rivers or a decreasing trend for the water area of the Sava river (improved quality).
Structure and contentBiodiversity: Designated areas
With five national parks, 14 parks of the nature and 73 reserves, the protected natural resources make up over 5% of the territory of Serbia.
