    Critical Legislative Package Aimed at Protecting Immigrant Rights

    “My colleagues and I are introducing this series of bills, a legislative package that will

    protect immigrants, immigrant families, and hold the Trump administration

    accountable,” said Rep. Adriano Espaillat (NY-13).

  • Immigration Legislation

    PROTECTING SENSITIVE LOCATIONS ACT, to prohibit immigration enforcement in “sensitive locations.”

    Reunite Every Unaccompanied Newborn Infant Toddler and Other Children Expeditiously (REUNITE) Act, to require the immediate reunification of children who were separated as a result of the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy.

    ICE AND CBP BODY CAMERA ACCOUNTABILITY ACT to require Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Customs and Border Patrol officers to wear body cameras.

    THIS LAND IS OUR LAND ACT to prohibit the U.S. Department of Homeland Security or U.S. Department of Defense from constructing any new border barriers, including walls or fences, on federal land.

    HOUSING VICTIMS OF MAJOR DISASTERS ACT

    The bill would help provide temporary rental assistanceto families displaced from their residences by any majordisaster declared during 2017, including HurricaneMaria, and solves a long-term problem of lack of landownership documentation in Puerto Rico that often keepsresidents from accessing vital disaster relief funds byallowing Disaster Relief funding to be used for landsurveys, land titles, and any other tax or fees associatedwith the transfer of property.

    ENDING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: THE GLADYSRICART GUN OFFENDER REGISTRY ACTThis proposal would establish a nationwide, publicregistry of criminals convicted of violent offensesinvolving a firearm that can be accessed publicly.

    THE HANDGUN LICENSING ANDREGISTRATION ACTThis bill would create a federal handgun licensingand registration process, but it would allow states toopt-out, on the condition that the state implementsits own licensing and registration system.

  • 2018 Legislation: Helping Small Businesses and Promoting Job Creation

    ADVANCING PROCUREMENT TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE CENTERS ACTThis legislation made it easier for local small businesses, particularly those of diversebackgrounds, to access the billions of dollars in government contracts carried out each yearby the Defense Department.

    ENCOURAGING SMALL BUSINESS INNOVATORS ACTThis bill makes important changes to federal Small Business Administration investmentprograms designed to bring small businesses and entrepreneurs not traditionally thought ofas resources by large federal agencies. It helps them with their products and gives thosesmall businesses access to Federal resources and skills to succeed in the commercialmarket.

  • EXTENDING EMPOWERMENT ZONESGrants given to artist by the Empowerment Zone (800,000)

    $4 million dollars for micro-lending.

    PREPARING NY13 FOR BOOMING INFRASTRUCTURE JOB MARKET

    New York City is always reshaping and rehabilitating– from skyscrapers to large transportation

    initiatives. To ensure residents of NY13 are ready to fill the thousands of lucrative positions on

    these projects, Rep. Espaillat is working with City College and other elected officials to develop

    a new program focused on training New Yorkers to fill the highly-technical, well-paid

    infrastructure jobs. An official announcement of the program will take place in Spring 2019!
