Goal Area 1: Finance
To maintain the constant and appropriate long-term funding to achieve the
educational mission of the Westlake City Schools.
Goal Area 2: Curriculum & Technology
Create a systematic framework to develop an all-inclusive learning environment
aimed at educating the whole child which empowers every Westlake student to
positively and purposefully contribute to society and to strive for excellence.

To have a 21st-century learning environment where form follows flexible function
and accommodates safety, curriculum and technology.

• Beth Dagostino, Holly Lane Elementary School

Staff EngagementIn partnership with the WTA, we created a
communication forum for open conversations between
leadership and teachers.
• Negotiated with the WTA earlier this year and finalized a
new three-year contract in a matter of days
• Tentative three-year agreement with OAPSE leadership,
which will be voted on later this month
• Retire/rehire of OAPSE members to prepare for the
elementary transition

Climate & CultureThe goal of the Westlake City Schools is to focus on building a culture of
inclusion, collaboration, open-mindedness, respect and inspiration where every
student feels welcome.
This is not only about the student and staff experience, but it is also the
first, and most important, step to school safety.

• The Safety Committee meets quarterly to review and update our security
procedures and policies. We also regularly provide safety drills for our students
and staff.
• Two School Resource Officers
• Close relationship with Westlake first responders
• Reviewing the safety of our current facilities
• Safety is one of the top considerations in the design of the new building

Building Improvements
Curbing was installed along the exit driveway, adjacent to the student and staff parking
areas at Westlake High School. The new curbed islands will be landscaped with stone and
plantings to enhance the visual appeal of the area. The new curbing is intended to improve
safety of traffic flow through the site.

A new sidewalk was installed from Bassett Road to the Lee Burneson Middle School/Dover
campus. The sidewalk is intended to improve safety of pedestrian travel on the Dover
campus.

Dover Intermediate School is having new rooftop air conditioning units installed and
upgraded. The gymnasium bleachers were also replaced and the gym floor was refinished.

A new shingle roof was installed on the Bassett Elementary school cafeteria. The older roof
was out of warranty and experiencing multiple leaks.

A concrete retaining wall was installed behind the discus pads at the High School practice
field. The area will receive decorative stone as a top course around the pads. The wall was
necessary to eliminate erosion of the site and to protect the integrity of the discus pad area.
