Corporate History

Paul Johnson Drywall, Inc. was established in Phoenix, Arizona in 1967 by Paul Johnson, Sr. Aft er many years of working as a Drywall Superintendent for a Self Performing Residenti al Home Builder (John F. Long Properti es), Paul Johnson, Sr. branched off to create his own company. Forced by market demand, John F. Long Properti es transiti oned into a subcontractor based building model and Paul Johnson Drywall rapidly grew as the residenti al tract home building model took off in the Arizona marketplace.

Paul Johnson Drywall quickly established a presence in the home building community and became the primary drywall subcontractor for numerous prominent Residenti al Development Companies. A fundamental commitment to service, integrity, trust, and excellence, gained Paul Johnson Drywall the recogniti on as a leader within the trade contractor industry. Throughout the 1970’s Paul Johnson, Sr. worked as a hands-on business owner, maintaining daily operati onal oversight for all projects built. Quality workmanship and on-ti me performance were his primary focus as he and his sons personally handled the fi eld operati ons. The business grew into a family aff air, with his sons by his side in the fi eld and his wife in the offi ce handling the administrati ve, payroll, and esti mati ng functi ons.

In the late 70’s, the Johnson family moved to Prescott , Arizona, but maintained the company presence in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan area. Aft er the deep constructi on recession of the early 80’s, Paul diversifi ed the business by engaging in various constructi on and development enterprises throughout the remainder of the decade.

As Paul’s son Cole Johnson att ended Northern Arizona University, where he earned a degree in Finance, the family worked toward reorganizing the directi on of Paul Johnson Drywall. In 1993, the company began operati ng exclusively as a drywall contracti ng business once again. Cole Johnson took the reigns as the new Owner and President of the company.

Throughout the 90’s Paul Johnson Drywall capitalized on the growing Arizona economy. The Single Family Residenti al market conti nued to expand the Arizona city’s limits, and a wave of Multi -Family Developments grabbed hold of inner city land parcels. Under the ambiti ous new management’s directi on, Paul Johnson Drywall quickly began establishing relati onships with Multi -Family Development Companies. Many large HUD projects in both the Central and Northern Arizona regions were awarded to Paul Johnson Drywall, and the name spread across the Multi -Family and Hospitality market segment. During the 90’s, Paul Johnson Drywall was responsible for completi ng nearly all of the large drywall projects in Northern Arizona.

At the turn of the Century, Cole took aim at expanding in the Phoenix Marketplace, and aggressively began building a presence amongst both the Single Family and Multi -Family builders. A local Phoenix branch offi ce was opened, and a highly experienced project management team was created to launch the growth initi ati ve within the Phoenix constructi on marketplace. The partnerships created with Nati onal Single Family Home Builders and large Multi -Family Developers quickly placed Paul Johnson Drywall among the largest and most successful drywall contractors in the region.

Cole’s vision for the company was not limited by the company’s previous experience. As the housing market came to a screeching halt during the later part of the decade, and as other companies began downsizing and/or disappearing, Paul Johnson Drywall conti nued to grow by hiring talented individuals to expand the company even further. Adept at generati ng positi ve growth opportuniti es, Cole saw an opportunity to take over where others had left off . The company expanded the services being off ered, putti ng measures in place to handle Metal Framing, Painti ng, Acousti cal Ceilings, Fire Proofi ng, Insulati on, and Door & Trim. Doors quickly opened within

Safety is a top priority on every job, not only for the benefi t of our employees, and our company, but for our clients as well. We have embraced the guidelines and regulati ons of OSHA, and collaborati vely work alongside inspectors to build the safety awareness within our constructi on environment hoping to improve the overall level of safety within the constructi on industry as a whole.

Our safety practi ces help to miti gate your risk and improve the overall safety awareness for each and every job we take part in. We have created a top rated safety program that enables us to consistently exceed the expectati ons of our customers by providing conti nuous support, educati on, training and technical experti se regarding safety. Because we place such focus on safety at the onset of each project, we minimize the risk for all involved. Our safety program helps to transform the jobsite into a safer environment through raising the safety awareness of both the General Contractor and other Subcontractors on site.

We believe that safety starts with each employee on the day that they are hired. We equip each of our employees with the knowledge and tools necessary to make the correct / safe decision on their own.

To ensure that we have hired like-minded, safety driven employees, we enforce both an initi al hiring and random drug and alcohol abuse testi ng program which is company-wide. Our drug and alcohol testi ng procedures eliminate the concern of impaired individuals on the jobsite, establishing a safer environment for everyone.

Safety starts with training. Our culture of safety is created through employee training and followed through by our site inspecti ons of safety requirements. Our philosophy is that all employees must be aware of the safety expectati ons that we have set. Communicati on is a key component to our Safety program. Each employee is oriented on not only our Safety program, but also our client’s safety requirements before any work begins on the project.
