Project Charter Document
Project Name: Our Nation and Society
Department: IDT
Focus Area: Designing learning objects for primary learners
Product/Process: Develop online resources for primary and secondary schools
The project will focus on Our Nation and Society for years K-12. The initiative is to develop an
online digital learning resource. This project will provide resources that support students to
develop understandings about society as a springboard for understanding themselves and others.
It will also investigate interconnecting social, cultural, ecological and economic systems,
political and ethical issues, and alternative worldviews. Students will develop values,
understanding, skills, dispositions and behaviors that are associated with civic decision making.
The scope of this project is to define and develop high-quality online digital content organized
around one or more of the following themes: geographical, economic, environmental, ethical,
ideological and political systems and issues. Also, the way we are now and what we want from
the future. The work will be completed by three teams, the writing team, the design team, and
the development team. The overall project manager will be Gordon Anderson, and other
representatives of SchoolsOnline.
PROJECT CHARTER PURPOSE

• Objectives
PROJECT EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
o Develop understandings about contemporary society as a springboard for
understanding self and others and for examining the contributions needed to bring
about preferred futures.
o Investigate interconnecting social, cultural, ecological and economic systems,
political and ethical issues, and alternative worldviews.
o Develop values, understandings, skills, dispositions and behavior associated with
civic decisions making and with principles of the democratic process, sustainable
futures, and social justice
• Scope
o To design and develop high quality online digital content organized around one or
more of the following themes:
Geographical, economic, environmental, ethical, ideological, and political
systems, and/or issues
The way we are now
What we want for the future
• Assumptions
o The material will need to be revised to fit online instruction
o Changes and proposals will be made from the company
Hine 4
o Expect the schedule to change depending on other teams involvements and
deadlines
• Constraints
o The design team is limited to the writing team
o Funding could be cut and the project could be put on hold
o We are limited to a timeline and a schedule that must be followed due to so many
individuals involved in the project
• Schedule
o SchoolsOnline will design and provide the master schedule.
• Timeline
o Project manager has not released the dates
My case study is based off of Case study 1: Scott Allen: Designing Learning Objects for Primary
Learners. I tried to put myself in the actual scenario and assume things that I may see during this
project. Some assumptions were that the material would need to be revised to fit the online
settings, another is that changes and proposals would be made all the time due to the company
wanting the final product to be perfect and with the amount of workers that would be on this
project. My final assumption was to expect I changes; this is because as I read the case study I
found that over thirty versions of a proposal will be submitted. I am sure more assumptions will
be made as the weeks continue. I have worked on the project scope along with the WBS for

week 2 and three and I am finding it challenging with all the changes that I keep making.
Project Name: Our Nation and Society Date: 11/22/2010
PROJECT SCOPE
Project Manager: Kyle Hine
Project Justification: The scope of this project is to define and develop high-quality online
digital content organized around one or more of the following themes: geographical, economic,
environmental, ethical, ideological and political systems and issues. Various online resources
will be included to make this work online. Some material that is best fit for a live in-class setting
will be revamped to fit online, while some material will not be used. This project will give
students the opportunity to view themselves now and what they can be in the future by using the
above themes.
Project Purpose: The project will focus on Our Nation and Society for years K-12. The
initiative is to develop an online digital learning resource. This project will provide resources
that support students to develop understandings about society as a springboard for understanding
themselves and others. It will also investigate interconnecting social, cultural, ecological and
economic systems, political and ethical issues, and alternative worldviews. Students will
develop values, understanding, skills, dispositions and behaviors that are associated with civic
decision making. The scope of this project is to define and develop high-quality online digital
content organized around one or more of the following themes: geographical, economic,
environmental, ethical, ideological and political systems and issues. Also, the way we are now
and what we want from the future. The work will be completed by three teams, the writing team,
Hine 6
the design team, and the development team. The overall project manager will be Gordon
Anderson, and other representatives of SchoolsOnline.
Project Objectives:
• Develop understandings about contemporary society as a springboard for understanding
self and others and for examining the contributions needed to bring about preferred
futures.
• Investigate interconnecting social, cultural, ecological and economic systems, political
and ethical issues, and alternative worldviews.
• Develop values, understandings, skills, dispositions and behavior associated with civic
decisions making and with principles of the democratic process, sustainable futures, and
social justice
Assumptions:
• The material will need to be revised to fit online instruction
• Changes and proposals will be made from the company
• Expect the schedule to change depending on other teams involvements and deadlines
Stakeholder List and Descriptions:
The Stake holder list will consist of six different stakeholders. The first stakeholder is the
Project Steering Committee. This is who is funding the project and who has the say in the final
product. The next stakeholders are the review panel and these stakeholders will review the full
design of the briefs before they go back to our team. The project manager is next and they are
responsible for the meetings, planning, and support. The three groups that will put the product
together are the writing, design and development group. All three groups will work closely with
one another through rough drafts, to revisions all the way to the final product.

Brief rational statement
My project was based on Case Study 1: Scott Allen. This project took on a minds of its own after the third week. The case study provided me with information for the design team but left all other aspects out, such as the development and writing teams roles. I found myself having to be creative with this project when it came to making up the scenarios of how Scott Allen would approach this. I did modify the case study and make myself the project manager because I wanted to play the role, since I was learning about the role. During this project I assumed that the case study would deal with making the online resources needed, but instead it gave me very little on that regard and set me up to manage the operation. Overall it was very good learning and experience and an enjoyable one towards the end.
