Current Status

• Several components are belonging to the COSMO-Model; new components are on their way (chemistry) into the official source code

• Actual Versions are COSMO-Model 4.5 and INT2LM 1.8

• Officially distributed COSMO-Model 4.2 and INT2LM 1.7

Source Code Administration

• Starting point last autumn: – COSMO-Model 4.0 including:

• Runge-Kutta dynamics; high-resolution applications

• Climate mode functionality

– INT2LM 1.6: on the way to full climate mode functionality

• Plans for the year 2007/08:

– Consolidation of the schemes

– Finish INT2LM to work fully in climate mode

– Include new components (2-moment microphysics, COSMO-ART)

– Bug fixes for reproducibility (DA, RK, SL-adv)

– Calculation of supercell detection indices

– Changes in the gust parameterization

– Brightband detection in radar data

– Changed computation of 2m Temperature

• COSMO-Model 4.4: (16.07.08)– Changed treatment of convective cloud condensate in the

Tiedtke convection scheme– Changed structure of advection routines in the RK

dynamics for a better optimization– Optimizations for a better vectorization

• COSMO-Model 4.5: (05.09.08)– Reading observations from a NetCDF file– Correction for computing reference pressure on half levels– Introduction of the SSO scheme– Implemented alternative reference atmosphere– Further optimizations for RK dynamics and vectorization

boundary conditions to the COSMO-Model• INT2LM 1.8 (26.05.08)

– Optimizations for vectorization– Interpolation of qr and qs from the GME grid– Read new external parameters (for SSO, topographical

Source Code Administration

• Officially tested and distributed in Dec 2007:– COSMO-Model 4.2 and INT2LM 1.7

• Development version distributed in March 2008– COSMO-Model 4.3

• Development versions (not distributed): – COSMO-Model 4.4, 4.5 and INT2LM 1.8

• Work is going on to implement– 2-moment microphysics– COSMO-ART

• Official release in autumn 2008!

(New) WG 6 Activities

• Implementation of a Source Code Task Force within WG 6 to – discuss development strategies (modularity of code;

re-use of components in other programs)– discuss development of other programs

(postprocessing)– discuss contents of COSMO-Model package– discuss contents of COSMO Software

• Responsible: Source Code Administrator + members from other institutes

• Re-activate a former WG 6 task: Code Optimization and Portability– discuss and test implementation strategies for different

processor architectures– discuss and test implementation strategies for hybrid

parallelization– observe developments in processor architectures

(multi-core chips)
