Term 4 Week 1 2019

2019 Calendar Hi everyone!

Well done to our students for their creative art exhibition at the Walbundrie Show, and to those who received prizes— these will be presented at our next assembly.

David Dunn completed the mural near our Bush Tucker Garden during the holidays —it looks deadly! Mrs Miller and Mr Mott will work with the students to complete Stage 1 of our garden this term.

The Year 3/4 students enjoyed the Small Schools’ Melbourne Excursion last term. Thank you to Miss Merrilees for supervising the students and assisting them to present a very entertaining account of their experiences.

Thank you to the parents/carers who participated in the Student Led Interviews, your input is much appreciated. The student PLP’s and learning goals have been updated for them to strive for this term.

On the last day of Term 3 we held a ‘Health Forum’ run by the students. The students presented information about healthy and safe living. Thank you to our visitors who provided feedback about the student’s presentations. We had some special visitors from the Rural Fire Service and Mrs Jenny Brown, DoE Road Safety Officer. We discussed bush fire safety and road safety issues. It was also great to have the Pre-School students join us for a fun learning day. We completed the day with our Jump Rope for Heart JUMP OFF. It was a very energetic way to finish the term!

We will run Kinder Orientation every Wednesday from Week 2, Term 4. The sessions will be held from 9.30am to 11.30am. There will be a Parent Information Workshop on Wednesday 23rd October from 9.30am to 11.30am, followed by Morning Tea. Amanda Church and I will present information about our school, learning programs and tips to help support your children for their learning journey—all parents are welcome to attend. Details have been sent to perspective parents. Please let me know if there may be any families who I don’t know about so I can invite them to learn about our school.

Upcoming Term 4 events include:

Murray HS Drama Enrichment Program, from Week 1 Stage 3 Human Development Program—23rd October K-6 Rand Super 8’s Cricket/Tabloids - 24th October K-6 Intensive Swimming Program, Weeks 4 & 8 Stage 3 Ballarat Excursion, 13-15 November Presentation Day/Year 6 Farewell, 18 December

Information and permission notes have been sent home for Super 8’s, Intensive Swimming and the Stage 3 Human Development program. Please return notes and payment asap. Izack and Tom will be attending the Murray High School Drama Enrichment program. This program aims to increase student self-confidence and orientate them to the high school setting. Mrs Alicen Waugh runs this program, Mrs Waugh has run drama workshops for our students and she, (and Murray HS students), participated in Burrum’s Got Talent.

The Year 5 students will be leading our School Assembly next Wednesday at 3pm.

Skittle Holiday Questions:

Students closed their eyes and

picked a skittle, they answered a

question according to a certain

colour.

E.g.: Red—Tell me your favourite

thing you did during the holidays.

- Here are some of our

responses...

What was that?—Liam Williams

I went camping with my family, Taylors family, and

our friends. We had four caravans. We jumped in

the river and played with Oscar’s toy trucks.

A toy truck nipped me, I thought it was a crab! I

quickly jumped out of the river and onto the bank. I

screamed, Taylor said “It is just a toy truck” I got

scared and ran away screaming. I said “Mum,

there is a crab”! “There are no crabs in the river”

said mum.

Holiday Recounts:

After our discussion, we wrote about our

holidays. Our students were very focused,

with only 20 minutes writing time

everyone finished a detailed recount.

Lockhart Adventures—Peter Hogan

This holidays we went to the Lockhart Spirit of

Land festival. We went on a farm tour. We saw

canola, wheat and oats. Ashton, Matthew and I got

to hop on a tractor and saw seeders, chaser bins,

seed bins and a sprayer. The next day we went to

an Iris Farm. We got to press two blue triggers on

a hot air balloon, and the gas made flames come

out of the ignitors in the air. It got very, very hot.

a running race.

By Wil and Jordan
