E.V.S. INTERDEPENDENCE IN NATURE

In nature exist plants and animals. To survive, one depends on the other for FOOD. Food is required to provide us

with ENERGY. In this plan, we will learn about the ENERGY PYRAMID.

OMNIVORES

CONSUMERS

CARNIVORES

HERBIVORES

PRODUCERS

As plants can make their own food as well as for other living beings, they are known as PRODUCERS.

All other living beings like animals and humans fall in the category of CONSUMERS.

In our ecosystem, SUN is the ultimate source of energy. Energy from the sun flows through our ecosystem in the

following way:

LEAF INSECT BIRD FOX

[The above is a 4 level food chain. ]

[REMEMBER: All food chains will always begin with a producer, that is a plant. ]

Thus, the transfer of energy from plants to animals, be they plant eating or flesh eating is known as a

‘FOOD CHAIN’

In nature there are many food chains that are interconnected This is known as a ‘FOOD WEB’

So, we will be learning more about the energy pyramid and the food chains and food webs that exist in

nature.

ACTIVITY:

Trace out two, 3- level food chains in:

A forest

A pond/lake

Draw any ONE food web.

[YOU CAN DRAW OR PASTE PICTURES BUT LABELLING IS A MUST]
