Introduction :

Dear Confreres,

On 3rd July 2018, on the feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle of India, Iwas Installed as Provincial of Visakhapatnam for the second term.I raise my heart, mind and soul to God in gratitude and thanks for hisgraciousness. During my last three years of tenure, I did experiencethe providence and guidance of God in leading the Province. I wishand pray for the continued presence of God and His guidance inleading the Province in the spirit of the Gospel, Spirituality of St.Francis De Sales and Fr. Peter Mermier, the directives of the MSFSConstitution and General Directory and tradition laid down by ourearly missionaries.

I express my thanks to Very Rev. Fr. Abraham Vettuvelil, the SuperiorGeneral of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales for appointingme as Provincial Superior. He had been a constant support duringmy last tenure. I do place on record his solidarity with the developmentof the Province of Visakhapatnam. I thank all the General Councillorsand General Administration for the confidence they have in me togive a spiritual and community based leadership in the province.

I thank all the MSFS Confreres of Visakhapatnam Province for theirProposals to the Superior General to appoint me as Provincial. Atthis juncture I request all the confreres to support and co-operate withthe projects and plans of the General Administration and the ProvincialAdministration to give a collective witness to the life we profess in.

Provincial Congress 2018:

Provincial Congress is a spiritual event in the Province. It callsfor intense personal and community preparation as it is intended“to make the spiritual life and mission of the Province morevibrant and effective” (Constitution Art. 235). It is a greatoccasion to come together as one Fransalian family, to shareour concerns to strengthen our unity and fraternity. Very Rev.Fr. Abraham Vettuvelil, the Superior General has granted hisapproval to conduct the proposed Provincial Congress inOctober 2018.

Convocation:As per the provisions of Art. 228 of our Constitutions and Art.261 of our General Directory, I do hereby convoke the EighthOrdinary Provincial Congress 2018 to be held from 15th October2018 to 18th October 2018 at SFS School, Seethammadhara,Visakhapatnam.

Theme for Congress:The theme for the Eighth Ordinary Provincial Congress 2018 atVisakhapatnam is:

“ROOTED IN OUR MISSIONARY LEGACY,WE COMMIT TO COLLECTIVE WITNESS IN MISSION”

Happy that we are close to the General Chapter 2019, which is anunique spiritual event in the life of the Congregation. Thus we are inimmediate preparation to the General Chapter.

We intend to capture the spirit and direction of the theme of theGeneral Chapter: Wake up to the Basics: namly Mission, CommunityLife, MSFSness, and SFS Spirituality.

So also the theme of our Provincial Congress reflects on the same aspects.

“Rooted” indicates the Wake up to the basics, return to the roots.

“Mission” indicates the fundamental basics and pillars of ourCongregation.

“Collective” indicates MSFSness, our Communion, CommonSpirituality through which we live our legacy and heritage.

“Witness” indicates the essential mandate and commitment to bearwitness and thereby our life and ministry become effective.

The theme is very relevant, practical because today we are living ina context of serious questions and challenges. Our basic life,missionary spirit, dynamism, loyalty to the Religious principles, Depthof our spirituality especially that of SFS, our commitment, the valuesof community life and witness.

Let us not be satisfied with our merits and glories but let us see ourdefects and failures and be humble to accept them and putwholehearted efforts to improve ourselves. Therefore, let all ourquestions, reflections and discussions be oriented towards renewalin these basics. Let us also think of establishing our missionarypresence in PNG, Canada and Trinidad and not just supplyingconfreres to these countries.

Dates for the Congress:

After few considerations the council and Fr. Provincial decided tohold the congress from 15th October to 18th October 2018. Thecongress would begin from October 15th at 6.00 p.m. and will endby lunch on 18th October 2018.

Invitation:On behalf of all the members of the Province of Visakhapatnam, Iextend a cordial welcome to all the special invitees andrepresentatives of the Superior General for the Provincial Congress2018 namely Very Rev. Fr. George Parampukatil, the GeneralCouncilor and other dignitaries. I also accord a warm welcome toVery Rev. Fr. Agnelo Fernandes, the General Councilor who wouldanimate the new Provincial Administration.I extend a warm welcome to all the perpetually professed membersof the province of Visakhapatnam to the Provincial Congress 2018.Kindly make necessary arrangements in your place of ministry toensure your participation.
