DESCRIPTION
There's much publicity about the potential of stem cell therapies in curing chronic diseases. Much of it blurs the distinction between research involving the destruction of living human embryos and ethical adult stem cell research. So far all the breakthroughs in stem cell research have been using adult stem cells.

It 's misleading and cruel to raise false hopes claiming
that stem-cell therapies are just around the corner,
depending only on funding for embryonic research.
In any event, embryo research involves the destruction
of human l i fe, making i t ethical ly unacceptable.
Instead of funding embryo research, lreland should aim
to become a centre of excellence for adult stem-cell
research which is scientif ically promising and ethically
non-controversial.
