The producer chooses the stories to include, the people to invite, and also writes the scripts. The production assistant helps the producer plan, write, and produce the show. The show’s host needs to have a good voice and be able to speak with or without a script. An announcer gives weather and traffic reports. Finally, reporters record news stories and interview people outside the studio. A: I’m good at acting. I can be the host. B: I can be a good reporter because I like talking to people. C: I’d like to be the producer. A: Let’s call the station Our Radio. C: And how about calling the show School Talk? D: That’s a great idea. Step 2 Choose a main news story What’s happening in your show – a school play, sports day? Which event would be a good news story for the show? Choose one. Decide how to prepare and present the news story. Who can you interview – other people in the group, a teacher? Do you need opinions from other students? A: We could do a story about the school play. Step 4 Write scripts and interview questions ■ What does the host say? What questions does the

reporter ask? What does the announcer say at the start of the show?

■ Write the scripts for the different parts of the show.

Step 5 Record your radio news show ■ Practice reading the script and interviewing the

people in your story. How long is each section?■ Record your radio show. If you make a mistake –

don’t stop.

Step 6 Listen to your show ■ Play your radio show in class. What do you think of

it? What do the other students in your class think?■ Listen to the other groups’ shows. Which is the

most entertaining? Why? Which had the most interesting interview? Why?

Step 3 Plan the rest of the show ■ Think of other things to include in the show – a

weather report, traffic report. ■ Make a list and order the different parts of the

show.■ Decide who is responsible for each part of the show.
