The European Law Students’ Association, ELSA, is an international, independent, non-political and non-profit-making organisation comprised and run by and for law students and young lawyers. Founded in 1981 by law students from Austria, Hungary, Poland and West Germany, ELSA is today the world’s largest independent law students’ association.

STEP is a trainee exchange programme that enables law students and young lawyers to gain first hand experience of the substantive and procedural law as well as the culture of another country. The traineeship can vary from 2 weeks to 24 months and can take place in any law related area.

Lo Student Exchange Trainee Programme (STEP) è parte delle attività di ELSA dal 1984. Partecipando si avrà l’opportunità di fare un’esperienza lavorativa retribuita presso varie realtà operanti nell’ambito giuridico. Si avrà l’occasione di migliorare le proprie capacità linguistiche, di conoscere da vicino sistemi giuridici di altri Paesi, arricchire il proprio CV con un’esperienza professionale senza paragoni, con in più la garanzia di essere ospitati nel migliore dei modi dalla Sezione Locale di riferimento.

La durata del tirocinio può variare da un minimo di 2 settimane a un massimo di 24 mesi. La partecipazione è aperta sia a studenti che neolaureati.

Ogni anno ELSA offre circa 130 opportunità STEP in tutta Europa e in altre parti del mondo, retribuite nella misura di un vero e proprio compenso per l’attività svolta o di un rimborso spese. Dall’inizio fino al termine dello stage ELSA fornisce assistenza.

La partecipazione è gratuita, ma riservata ai soci ELSA. Possono diventare membri gli studenti di Giurisprudenza e di altri corsi di studio con indirizzo giuridico, e i laureati in tali ambiti che non abbiano concluso il percorso universitario da più di cinque anni.

L’iscrizione si effettua presso una delle nostre sezioni locali. L’elenco, con tutti i contatti è consultabile qui. Il costo della quota associativa è a discrezione della Sezione, e solitamente è intorno ai 10 Euro.

Il responsabile locale dell’area tirocini ti aiuterà a compilare correttamente l’apposito modulo di candidatura. Ti prego di non attendere l’ultimo momento, perché entro il giorno indicato come “deadline” in fondo ad ogni bando le candidature dovranno pervenire, attraverso la tua Sezione Locale, ad ELSA International correttamente compilate.

ELSA è un’associazione indipendente e apartitica di studenti e neolaureati in Giurisprudenza che si adopera per promuovere la formazione di operatori giuridici professionalmente qualificati in ambito europeo e internazionale, cercando di colmare il gap informativo e formativo oggi esistente tra il mondo universitario e del lavoro.

ELSA non è solo tirocini. Come socio puoi partecipare a: conferenze, seminari o law school. Avrai la possibilità di prendere parte a gruppi di ricerca, partecipare a simulazioni processuali e di essere selezionato come delegato ELSiano presso uno dei Ns. Partner istituzionali (Agenzie dell'ONU, WTO, CoE) per partecipare alle sessioni di lavoro dell'ente.

Being an ELSA member, you are very likely to be acquainted with the vision, purpose and means of this association. To reflect upon that, one of the means of ELSA is to assist law students and young lawyers to be internationally minded and profession-ally skilled. There is a vastness of ways of achieving this, and ELSA surely explores and uses them all. However, one of the ways of bridging the knowledge gained at your university library with the real work is most certainly the Student Trainee Exchange Programme.

STEP relocates dry legal theory from its’ paral-lel universe with practice and combines them by unifying them and making way for solutions to the daily international legal challenges one faces in their career. But that is not all there is. STEP shapes practice and legal education into one and then ships it off outside the red border on your geographical map, taking the experience to a whole new level.

Existing for almost three decades, this pro-gramme has grown to be a trusted and reliable system of exchange. This is due to the fact that over 200 law students, so called STEP officers, drive this programme into its success, expand-

ing it and shaping it towards the needs of ELSA members. But this does not only mean obtaining traineeships. This presumes a particular segment of STEP we are very proud of: Reception. This, as well, is organised by STEP officers through-out Europe, making sure your stay in their coun-tries is comfortable and friendly and that you are fully integrated in the society. With these words, I would like to thank all hardworking STEP offic-ers who have made this Newsletter possible.

With STEP, it is not only about the thrill of being a trainee. It is about shifting focus from nation-al to international, augmenting your legal skills, challenging your command of languages, and lastly, making friends and creating your own net-work of contacts. Tasks

The trainee will do research in different legal issues and should compose a paper accounting legal matters in an amount of 10 pages. The second part of the task will take place at the general hospital of Vienna. The Trainee will work in the legal section and will have direct contact to the head of the legal section. With him it is possible to agree on a special topic to write an article about. Later it can be published in a medical magazine.

It is also the first instance for maintaining public law, order and safety and handles administrative procedures.


Tasks

The ELSA-trainee will primarily be expected to accompany employees outside the office. While attending court hearings, meetings, inspections and other departmental actions, the trainee will gain insight into the important responsibilities of our administrative department, e.g. licensing production plants, environmental law, com-mercial forest law, public health law, traffic regulations, duties of state - doctors and state - veterinarians. Office hours will be used to be introduced to the legal basis of our administrative duties and our organisation. The trainee will only to a small extent be required to work directly on a case-file. The trainee can expect ELSA Innsbruck to help with finding accommodation.

The Republic of Croatia occupies the largest part of the eastern coast of the Adriatic Sea, border-ing Slovenia in the west, Hungary to the north, Serbia in the east, Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the south. Tasks

Depending on personal preferences and needs of the Office, the trainee may participate in any of the areas within the scope of the Office activities (anti-discrimination, anti-trafficking, minority rights, Roma related issues). The trainee will also be involved in the projects conducted by the Office as well in other relevant tasks within the Of-fice. Regarding the Preferred Start Date and Preferred End Date, we specified Start Date as October 15th and End Date as December 10th, but we would like to mention that we are willing to offer a possibility for a trainee tochoose how long he or she would like to stay here (4 weeks minimum and 8 weeks maximum).

DESCRIPTION Of THE EmPLOyER Roma National Council (RNC) is an umbrella NGO that promotes human rights and connects the issues ofidentity, participation and integration of Roma in Croatia. Our projects are implemented in cooperationwith the Roma community and local, regional and state institutions. Roma National Council was establishedbecause of the need to bring together activities of Roma community in a single institution of Roma peopleat the Croatian level, with a task of excercising the rights of Roma national minority, to meet their cultural,educational, national, scientific, social and other common rights and interests of the Roma people, toempower Roma associations and to monitor implementation of the minority and other laws andregulations as well as international documents.


Tasks

The trainee will support research work at the Roma National Council. This includes research on the topic of mi-nority laws and regulations in specifics countries and especially documents of EU relating to the Roma. The Swedish prison and probation service, the local jail and a prison. This will be a very interesting traineeship with various study visits and meetings with professionals in the context of Law.

STEP Traineeships are only available to ELSA mem-bers. To become one, please approach the nearest ELSA Local Group in your country.

Once you are a member, you are entitled to apply through your ELSA Local Group by filling in the Student Application Form provided by your local VP STEP.

When filling in the Student Application Form, you are obliged to provide proof for every addition to your Curriculum Vitae and present it to the local VP STEP handling your application.
