Assignment 1.3 Personal Reflection on Strategic Leadership

Submit a written (no more than 250 words) personal reflection, or other creative

product of your choice, on why the NCPAPA High Performance Model identifies

Strategic Leadership as the driver of the seven NCSSE and what you as a school

leader will do to advance your current leadership knowledge, skills, or dispositions

in this standard to the Distinguished level of performance.

Strategic Leadership is identified as the driving standard of the seven NCSSE

because it brings into focus the purpose of the school and how all stakeholders

contribute to that purpose. To advance by current skills and knowledge of strategic

leadership I will work with my mentor principal and staff to develop a current

mission and vision statement to enable buy-in at every level. I will also facilitate

staff groups to write expectations for staff and students that will result in a set of

belief statements for the school. To ensure unity around these founding statements I

will communicate the mission, vision, and belief statements to students, parents and

community through various forms of media so that we are all heading in the samedirection. I will read current literature and visit model schools to stay current in

best practices that would best suit my school. I will seek out purposeful

conversations and feedback from my mentor and coach and reflect on my learning

experiences in order to grow as a leader. I will also be visible in the school and

model the mission, vision and beliefs with my words and actions.
