Position Overview

The placement is within the Precinct Delivery Branch in the Precincts and Suburbs Group.

Precincts and Suburbs Group

The newly established Precincts and Suburbs Group drives strategic planning for precincts, suburbs and places to create vibrant, distinct and innovative communities. We work to create more jobs for Victorians, thriving communities and sustainable growth by prioritising, sequencing, designing and delivering precinct and suburban developments.

We develop priority precincts and places to attract investment and people, and create the conditions for businesses, education and training institutions to innovate by sharing knowledge, infrastructure and talent. Precinct Delivery Branch

The Precinct Delivery Branch provides whole-of-government precinct development and capital project assistance, facilitation and business case development services. This intern position is part of this Branch.

Activities include:

• Developing precincts that deliver economic and strategic benefits to the state including optimising investment attraction opportunities;

• Facilitating complex investment projects requiring extensive cross-government coordination and negotiation;

• Ensuring precinct and project development takes into account operational requirements and integration needs with wider civic considerations such as public transport as well as urban amenity and design.

Key Accountabilities

1. Provide project management support for whole-of-government coordination activities for state significant Precincts.

2. Support effective internal and external relationships with project partners, government agencies, local councils and businesses as required.

3. Contibute to the development and delivery of economic objectives for Precincts.

4. Support the Precinct Delivery team to convey complex concepts and information to internal and external stakeholders, including executive management and ministerial offices.

5. Contribute to exemplary governance through effective project management and secretariat support for project committees.

6. Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high-performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.

Key Selection Criteria

7. Project Management: Work with, and assist, Project Managers to consult and liaise with key stakeholders; produce detailed project plans where objectives are clearly defined and action steps for achieving them are clearly specified; monitor performance against objectives and manage project risks and issues.

8. Relationship Building: Support the establishment and maintenance of relationships with people at all levels; promotes harmony and consensus through diplomatic handling of disagreements; forges useful partnerships with people across business areas, functions and organisations; builds trust through consistent actions, values and communication; minimises surprises.

9. Written Communication: Assist with preparing briefs, letters, emails and reports using clear, concise and grammatically correct language; ensures written communications contain necessary information to achieve their purpose; uses appropriate style and formats.

10. Self-management: Invites feedback on own behaviour and impact; uses new knowledge or information about self to build a broader understanding of own behaviour and the impact it has on others; understands strong emotional reactions and seeks ways to more effectively manage them.

11. Teamwork: Cooperates and works well with others in the pursuit of team goals; collaborates and shares information; shows consideration, concern and respect for others’ feelings and ideas; accommodates and works well with the different working styles of others; encourages resolution of conflict within group.

Ideal Degree/Discipline

This position is suited to university students with a background and interest in disciplines such as project management, planning, built environment and economic development.

Eligibility Requirements

Second last or final year of a relevant undergraduate or postgraduate degree

Applicants must be an Australian Citizen, Permanent Resident or hold a valid work permit or visa.

Identify as having disability

• Candidates may be required to undergo a background check security clearance

• Recipients of Victorian Public Service (VPS) voluntary departure packages should note that re-employment restrictions apply.

• Non-VPS applicants will be subject to a probation period of three months.

• All new appointments to the department will be subject to a National Police Records Check.

• Employees are covered by the Victorian Public Service Enterprise Agreement 2016.

• The collection and handling of applications and personal information will be consistent with the requirements of the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014.
