Setting new standards

An important new European Standard EN13060 defines and approves three basic classifications of small steam sterilizers.

Type of cycle

Description of approved use by EN13060

S•The sterilization of products as specified by the manufacturers of the sterilizer including non wrapped solid products and at least one of the following: porous products, small porous items, hollow load products type A, hollow load products B, single wrapped products, multiple-layer wrapped products

N •The sterilization of non wrapped solid products

B •The sterilization of all wrapped or non-wrapped, solid, hollow load products type A and porous products as represented by the test loads in this standard

What’s the advantage?: Time

• STATIM’s revolutionary technology allows you to sterilize up to 8X faster than a common ‘round chamber’ style autoclave.

• STATIM ’s incredible 6 minute cycle will allow you to sterilize instruments between procedures, or simply as you need them.

Page 28: Sterilization
Page 29: Sterilization

Another advantage?: Money

• Savings: Total cost of ownership• 0.04 cents a cycle, a hundred times

less than a conventional autoclave• Reduce labor and packaging costs• Put more jewelry on display• Sterilizes gemstones and gold without

discoloration or breakage• Delicate to sterilize tattoo machines

The most versatile autoclave

• Whether you choose to process wrapped or unwrapped instrument loads, STATIM has an unprecedented, ultra fast cycle speed for each.

Page 32: Sterilization

How does Statim work so fast?

• The removal of air has long been recognized as critical to achieving sterilization because air can act as a barrier to the sterilizing steam.

• In fact, unless the autoclave can evacuate air from inside the hollow instrument before sterilization begins; the inside would not necessarily be sterilized.

• This ‘pre-evacuation’ and sterilization can only be assured in a validated S or B-cycle autoclave.

Page 33: Sterilization

How does Statim work so fast?

• The new European Standard recognizes that there is more than one way to achieve the removal of air.

• The gentle action of the Statim S-cycle displaces air from the sterilization chamber by a patented steam-injection, positive pressure pulse displacement process.

• This Statim process is at least five times faster than the typical 45-70 minute cycle of conventional B-cycle vacuum autoclaves.

“It is essential that the steriliser and associated equipment is used only for the sterilisation of the type of products for which it is designed. The choice of steriliser, sterilisation cycle or quality of services provided can be inappropriate for a particular load. Therefore the suitability of the sterilisation procedure for a particular product needs to be verified by validation.” EN13060.

Page 34: Sterilization

Wrapped sterilization

• Faster cycle time (10” STATIM 2000)

• Faster drying time (STATDri suggested between cycles)

• Automatic forced air dry cycle• Full flushing steam penetration

of small hollow items such as jewelry and tubes

• Use less wrapped goods because you can sterilize what you need – when you need it

Page 35: Sterilization

Unwrapped sterilizationA wide range of applications. No matter what medical field you’re in, STATIM works to your advantage.

STATIM was originally developed for use in Dental applications; today, STATIM delivers complete sterilization solutions for Endoscopy, Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Body Art and more.

Page 36: Sterilization

• The biggest advantage of the design allows for the aseptic transport of unwrapped instrument loads from the instrument reprocessing area directly to the procedure room –

• an industry first.

Page 37: Sterilization
Page 38: Sterilization

Fast, efficient, safe

• Take regular advantage of STATIM’s fully validated unwrapped cycle.

• Maximize your efficiency as there’s less need to store large inventories of jewelry / instruments to get you through the day.

• Use fewer instruments more often.

• Sterilize jewelry when you need it.

Page 39: Sterilization

STATIM is easy to use.

• STATIM’s operation is fully automatic.• Simply select one of four programs and press

start to begin the cycle with a single keypad touch.

• An advanced microprocessor controls all functions, eliminating overheating and temperature spikes, and maintaining optimal sterilization conditions, from start to finish.

• Self diagnosis virtually eliminates processing errors

Page 40: Sterilization

Effective every time.

• STATIM’s biological and physical effectiveness has been proven in tests for hollow and solid instruments at many internationally recognized institutes including: University Hospital in London, Canada; Brooks Air Force Base, United States; University of Liverpool, England; Institute Pasteur, France; and University of Kiel, Germany.

• The STATIM system is designed to abort a cycle if any fault occurs. It is self-diagnosing – if a problem occurs, it will be indicated on the electronic display.

Page 42: Sterilization
Page 43: Sterilization

How STATIM works.• When START is pressed, the steam generator heats to the optimum

temperature and a defined volume of distilled water is pumped in and converted to steam.

• Then, a wall of steam is injected into the pressure chamber and cassette, which is loaded with contaminated instruments.

• Air is purged as the steam courses through the cassette and is continuously expelled into a condenser flask.

• After the cycle is completed, a small air compressor switches on, drying and cooling the instruments rapidly.

• The STATIM system completely sterilizes instruments within international standards.

• STATIM Cassette Sterilizers use clean distilled water with every cycle, preventing the build-up of rust and other contaminants.

Page 44: Sterilization

How STATIM works: inside

Page 45: Sterilization

User MaintenanceDaily• Wash the interior of the cassette with chlorine-free dishwashing detergent or soap.

Rinse thoroughly with water.• Coat inside cassette walls and seal with StatDri after washing the cassette and after

every 10 cycles, or whenever condensation is seen beading on the lid after a cycle• Clean reservoir filter screen before you add water• Empty the waste bottle every time you refill the reservoir. Fill with tap water up to MIN

line. You can also add some chlorine-free disinfectant.• To ensure optimal performance of the Statim autoclave, SciCan recommends that a

full sterilization cycle, which must include the full Air Drying phase, be completed at the end of each day of use. This is especially important when the unit is left idle over the weekend or for any extended period of time.

• Drain water reservoir daily, especially if the unit will not be used for over 24 hours.Weekly• Check the air filters for dirt and moisture. Replace if dirty. Call for service if wet.• Cassettes can be polished with “Barkeep’s friend” or other non-chlorine stainless

steel polish• Change cassette seals and air filters every 6 months or 500 cycles

Page 46: Sterilization

Technician MaintenanceOnce a year • Cassette: Check the tray, lid and seal for damage. Replace if

necessary.• Air Filters: Check the filters. Replace if dirty.• Solenoid Valve: Inspect the valve and clean if dirty. Replace the

plunger if defective.• Calibration: Calibrate the unit.• Pump: Clean the filters, replace if dirty.• Check Valve: Remove the air compressor tube from the check

valve inlet while running a cycle. Make sure no steam is leaking from the valve. Replace if there are any leaks.

• Water Reservoir: Check the reservoir for dirt. Clean and rinse with steam process distilled water

The whole is sometimes greaterthan its parts.

HYDRIM™ plus STATIM equals the most advanced instrument-processing system available.

Page 50: Sterilization

Simplify instrument washingwith the HYDRIM Instrument

Washer.• Step One. Load• Introducing a new, automated method to wash

medical instruments – the HYDRIM C51w Instrument Washer.

• The HYDRIM automatically removes debris from instruments, reducing time, effort, and risk related to pre-ultrasonic manual cleaning.

• The unit is organized to simplify the washing process, with baskets for loose instruments, special holders for hollow instruments, and racks for instrument management cassettes of most sizes.

• HYDRIM will easily adapt to any environment. Simply load the machine, close the door and select a program.

Page 51: Sterilization

From start to finish, all with the touch of a button.

• Step Two. Wash• HYDRIM C51w ensures a level of clean unlike

any other washer in the marketplace – with one simple touch of a button.

• Just select the appropriate cycle – a regular cycle for lightly soiled loose instruments, a heavy cycle for heavily soiled instruments or cassettes, or a rinse-and-hold cycle – and eliminate the need to pre-soak, scrub and rinse instruments.

• Cleaning solution is dispensed automatically during each cycle, and is completely evacuated from the system when the cycle ends.

• That means solution is never reused, and there are no tanks that require manual emptying.

Page 52: Sterilization

Thoroughly cleaned instruments for effective sterilization.

• Step Three. Unload• Once the cycle is complete, simply

unload instruments from the HYDRIM unit and load into any autoclave system - instruments have already been rinsed off. HYDRIM is designed to get instruments clean - very clean - as any residual debris left on instruments may impair sterilization.

• By virtually eliminating debris on instruments, the HYDRIM promotes more effective sterilization.

Page 53: Sterilization

• Step Four. Sterilize• Using the state-of-the-art STATIM

or your current process, instruments are now ready for sterilization.

• STATIM has a rapid sterilization cycle and is non-damaging to even the most sensitive instruments.

• So take the guesswork out of instrument processing: together, HYDRIM and STATIM ensure optimal results for your instruments, every time.

Page 54: Sterilization

HYDRIM eliminates:

• Soaking• Scrubbing

• Clumsy emptying and cleaning of ultrasonic tanks

• Rinsing of instruments after washing to remove chemicals, as necessary with most ultrasonic units

Page 55: Sterilization

HYDRIM. Put to the test.• To determine actual performance, SciCan put the HYDRIM C51w

Instrument Washer to the test. • The objective was to determine how well the C51w could clean medical

instruments contaminated with proteinaceous material.• Instruments were tested in both cassettes and open baskets under practice-

type conditions. • Instruments were soiled on their functional ends with a mixture of blood and

hydroxyapatite (HA) and an albumin – mucin – starch test soil. • The amount of protein recovered was compared to the amount of protein

placed on the instrument before cleaning: the protein data was expressed as percent removal.

• Results indicated exceptional cleaning efficacy at 99.9 to 100%

• Currently developing lumens flushing adapters for smaller hollow Body Art instruments such as tattoo tubes and receiving tubes
