North Carolina DMV Drivers License Test Study Guide

Its funny when you get it

This study guide used to be found on a few websites for free, but now most of them want to charge you for itif you can find it at all

(which is absurd given that this is nothing more than a word-for-word transcription of parts of the NC DMV Drivers Handbook). If

youre needing to take the NC DMV drivers license exam and youve stumbled across this post, youre in luck! I printed the list out awhile back when I took the test (back when this info could be found for free) and I just so happened to find the crinkly old piece of

paper the other day. I figured its a darn good study guide for a test that can throw some crazy curve balls when it comes to questions

related to a drivers skill and knowledge (in my humble opinion). That said, there are some good questions that make you thinkand wecould absolutely use some more drivers on the road that can think! That leads me to my point of posting this info

Some may get mad and think Im posting a cheat sheet to the drivers test and subverting the purpose of testing drivers. Others may be

looking for a lazy way out of testing and want all of the answers without studying. I can see all sides of the equation and my take on it is

that this is nothing more than a piece of the pie of becoming a NC licensed driver. For brand new drivers (never licensed anywhere else

or just turned 16), theres still much more to becoming licensed than this test. For those whove been licensed somewhere else (for

instance, someone that just moved to NC but had a drivers license in their former state), theyve been through the motions and

have hopefully proven that they know the basics of drivingsomething that this guide is not going to help anyone pass or fake! Even if this

guide is committed to memory, the reader is learning something. Im willing to bet a few of these examples will stick in your mind for a

long time to come!

So without further ado

In densely packed snow you should use chains or snow tires.If you must drive during heavy snow or fog, use your low-beam headlights.

Alcohol-related highway deaths account for 38% of all traffic fatalities.

If you accumulate 7 or more points on your traffic record you may attend a Driver Improvement Clinic to deduct three points

from your driving record.

The traffic conviction that adds the highest number of points (5) to your driving record is passing a stopped school bus that is

loading or unloading children.Secondary roads are roads where hills are more likley to be more steep and curves are likely to be more sharp than on primary

roads.

Unless otherwise posted, the speed limit in cities and towns is 35 miles per hour.

To have a revoked driver license restored, you must visit a driver license office, pay a restoration fee, and reapply for a license.

When three vehicles reach a 4-way stop at the same, the right of way belongs to the car on the right.

If a vehicle sways freely, leans heavily to one side during a turn or seems to bounce continuously, there may be a problem with

the suspension system.

If you experience a breakdown, you should call a law enforcement officer.

To maintain a safe driving distance between your car and the car in front of you, you should use the two-second rule.If you take any medication before you drive, you should find out what effect the medicine has.

If you are planning a long road trip, you should stop and rest every 100 miles.

Before passing another vehicle, you should look ahead to ensure that there is enough room for you to pass.

When driving down a very steep hill, you should shift into a lower gear to control your speed.

If you run off the side of the road, you should gradually take your foot off the gas pedal.

When travelling on rural highways, farm equipment usually travels at its maximum speed of 15-20 mph.

If you are driving into a circle you should yield to cars already in the circle.

If you are in a crash, you should move your car off of the road. (there has been some question to this oneresearch on

your own!)School buses are required to stop at all railroad crossings.

In city traffic, you should be alert for drivers who make quick stops.

Truckers have serious blind spots into which cars can disappear from view.Unless there is a sign indicating no turn on red, you can turn right on red after stopping and making sure that the turn can be madesafely.

For any underage person who aids or abets another attempting to purchase any alcoholic beverage, the law requires a one-yeardriver license revocation.

Your license will be revoked immediately if your blood alcohol concentration is at least 0.08 percent.When aproaching a road that is blocked from view you should stop and proceed with caution.

Defensive drivers check their rear view mirror and side mirrors roughly every 10 seconds.If going 45 miles per hour, how far ahead should you signal before turning? 200 ft.

If you plan to turn and are not in the proper lane to do so, you should continue to the next intersection, then turn.The most common type of accident on a highway is a rear-end collisionWhen driving behind someone you should not use your high beams

To dry wet brakes, gently apply the brakesDont hang out in the No zone refers to not be in truckers blind spots

When approaching a railroad crossing slow down and prepare to stopIf you pull up to a red arrow, the turning lane is the only lane that should stop

if you are a pedestrian walking along side the road at night, you should carry or wear something whiteUse high beams when driving on a highway and no car is approaching

Slippery roads are most likely to occur when it has just begun to drizzle or rainWhen traveling behind a farm vehicle on a two-lane road wait until the farm vehicle has the chance to pull over to the side, thenpass with caution

Large trucks (tractor trailers) have large blind spots to the side and rearWhen preparing to make a right-hand turn turn on your turn signal and approach the right-hand side of the road

A shoulder check is a quick glance over your shoulder on the side in which you intend to turn or change lanesWhen you get tired on a long trip, you should stop and rest

When taking a long trip, you should plan to stop and rest every 100 milesIf you are following a car at night, how do you know if the road is bumpy? You watch the tail-lights.

There is also a visual test where you will be asked to identify common traffic signs by their shape and color only (see the NC DMV

drivers handbook for a guide to this). For example, they might show you a red octagon and you must identify it as a stop sign. Here area few other examples:

A blank white square with black border: Speed Limit

As long as you remember that you are allowed to skip a few this guide still works to pass the test!

I only missed one using this guide and never reading the manual of course, I have been driving for more years than I care tomention.

The one I missed was due to one reader stated that the answer to refusing the breath test was 6 months. That would beINCORRECT. The answer is currently 12 months so watch out for that one.

This totally Helped me I just took my test today and am now a licensed driver!!!!! Only thing I messed up on were the signs!!!!The three with no workds , School ZOne , Railroad Crossing in a Circle and a NO passing zone!!!!

Found this website literally a few hours before I had to take the test. Pulled it up on my phone while in the waiting room (total waittime about 1.5hrs), passed the test 20/20 (skipped 5) within 15 minutes. This guide had about 70% of the questions the test

presented. If you memorize these, and skip the ones you dont recognize youll pass for sure.

Looked at this sheet for 10-15 minutes about 30 minutes before the test. Aced the first 20 questions of the test and passed.Thanks Steve~

The question are the same if you have to retake the test, they may be switched around but thats it.

I would add, dont forget to use the skip this question option in the test. The testing system says the questions come back at theend of the test, but as far as I can tell; the testing system uses new questions. In other words, if you dont know press skip. Ithink 5 skips are allowed.

If you have an accident on the highway you should > Notify law enforcement. Wrong answers would include move car of to

the side of the road and notify your insurance company within one week. This is recently verified and I believe addresses thequestion above in the main post. I will paste and cut that here.

If you are in a crash, you should move your car off of the road. (there has been some question to this oneresearch on yourown!) This is incorrect.

When driving in reverse you should?

Hold the wheel with one handPlace your left hand at the 12 oclock position.Drape your right arm across your seat.

Look over your right shoulder to see where youre going

wrong answers might include using the rear view mirror

If approaching an intersection and the light turns yellow you should?

Stop immediatelyWrong answers include proceed with caution and speed up.

A non-commercial driver is intoxicated if blood alcohol level is 0.08%.

A commercial driver is intoxicated if blood alcohol level is 0.04%

2 out 5 car accident deaths in cities are pedestrians.

Signs:

Sometimes they just show the outer shape of the sign without any symbol or lettering in it. Examples include Stop sign (redoctagon), Railroad crossing (round yellow circle, school zone (five sided yellow shape rectangle with triangular top, speed limit,no passing (yellow triangle on its side).

Clarification about skipping questions. When you skip a question it does not go away you are just delaying it. The 25 you getare the 25 you get. The ones you have skipped come back at the end.

I just wanted to thank you on this websight for all the good inform. and helpful hints and also the 2 test that you can practice on onhere through the posts and also from the poster of this websight. It says that if you click on the DMV websight it doesnt have thetest anymore but it does. You just need to scrolled down and click on DMV drivers sample test. Those questions as well aswhats on here is really helpful to passing the test. You start with your vision test and you read the top row a crossed and then thenext rows are the signs that you verbally tell the agent at the DMV. There are about 12 sign and the last 4 are the ones that haveno writing on them. Mine where:Stop Light, Yield, School Crossing, and Railroad crossing. The rest where easy bc they hadwriting on them to identify them but there where a few like: Hill, Merging Traffic etc that where on there but bc I had looked over

the signs before coming in I didnt miss one. Then you go and take your computer test which is multiple ABC questions. I didnthave any true or false. Didnt have any of the ones that have any questions that would say D. None of the above. just A/B/C. Ifound that it is important to understand that you can skip a question. One person posted that when you skip it goes to the end andyou have to retake those but that did not happen to me. I used one skip which was towards the end of my test and all of a suddenit said that I passed with a 80%. This was a great sight!! Thanks again!!

This cheat sheet is fantastic. It pretty much covers all the questions on the test. Thanks to this sheet, I was able to get my first 20questions right and pass the test. It saved me hours of reading and stressing over the test. Thanks so much for posting thiswhatan invaluable service to the community.Also, as far as the signs test go please make sure you look at the railway crossing and school signs. They give you only the

shape of the sign and ask you what it means. You will need to know the signs by their unique shapes. You can only make 2 or 3mistakes with the signs, so make sure you pay close attention and can recognize the signs.

I will be taking my first time ever written test here at NC and I am a beginner.(never drive & test exam in my life)I read the handbook 2012 twice from the beginner to an end and taking practice test online. Thanks for this list. It definitely helped. I passed my test (4 wrong).

Only point that was mentioned here that I got wrong was the one about the car involved in accident. The right answer is to reportit to a law enforcement agency.There were a couple of questions that I had that were not covered above:1. You should NOT slow down a car if you have just gone over the crest of a hill.2. Cars should be inspected every year.3. If approaching an intersection where you have the right of way and the entering road is hidden, you should not honk!

There were nine signs, 6 normal and 3 blank. For some reason on the yellow round circle (RR crossing) and home plate (5pointed sign school or school crossing) I drew a complete blank but the instructor was OK with it.

The test questions are much more straightforward than the ones in the sample test on the DMV website.

me again just took test today Aug 09,2013 and super thank u Steve, I was worried and hesitate with your post to study it butyou helped a lot to me and others.

I passed 23 correct and 2 incorrect I couldnt remember it because it is not in here in your post but mostly question are here. The sign are 1 to 12 8 are warming sign and 4 is have to be discribe . stop sign, school zone, railroad crossing, no passing zone.Now I can share this site to my other friends for them to have an idea what is gonna be question and answer at DMV exam.specially to those beginner or first timer like me..:-) God bless.

How long does it take for your nc license to arrive in the mail the DMV took my texas license and all my other states Ids so now Idont have no Id but a piece of paper the DMV gave me to use it for driving so how long does it take for it to arrive?
