Governance Team

THE MUCH RESPECTED St. Felix Social Ministries at 25 Augusta Avenue in Toronto has been the dedicated sponsored endeavor of the Felician Sisters who profess in our mission statement that:

We are committed to better the human •condition through our ministries. We work to repair social conditions that •hinder fullness of life for individuals and communities. We respond to the needs of the whole •person with special attention to those of the human spirit.

That mission, which began 140 years ago in North America, continues in so many beautiful ways in the works of mercy

performed on an almost daily basis at St. Felix Centre and St. Felix House, our transitional home for women. One need observe just one meal served in our dining room or one encounter between a staff member and a homeless person to witness the kindness and compassion and non-judgmental attitudes of our dedicated staff and volunteers. They are true extensions of the selfless giving exemplified in the life of Blessed Mary Angela, the Foundress of the Felicians Sisters. The spirit of St. Felix of Cantalice, the patron of the Felician Congregation, shines in their generous service to the poor and needy who trustingly cross our thresholds looking for the compassionate face and touch of Jesus.Every time I have the opportunity to be at St. Felix Centre or St. Felix House, I find myself quietly singing words from the Book of Exodus put to music:

This annual report gives witness to the ways our staff and volunteers live out the values expressed in the mission statement of the Felician Sisters. The Board of Directors of St. Felix Social Ministries applauds them and thank God for the gifts they are to His people.- Sister Francesca

Interim Leadership Team

I FEEL HONORED to be part of a very unique place. When our clients walk through the doors at St. Felix Centre they are not just a number they are guests, who are treated with care and compassion, not judged for what they are wearing or who they are. The respect and kindness that is shown on a daily basis is amazing. It could be sharing a coffee with a guest or getting a pair of shoes or a sweater to keep them warm. Our staff and volunteers are so very supportive of each other and give one hundred and ten percent with everything they do. What a blessing to be part of something so very special!

I CAME ALONG TO SFC just over a year ago to volunteer on the lunch program, was offered the opportunity to manage St. Felix House and following Paddy’s departure became part of the interim leadership team. I believe this is part of the testament to this organisation that we see opportunity and seize the day for staff, volunteers and our clients. Our main objective is to ensure our core programs thrive and that we look for new opportunities to grow others in line with our clients’ needs. At all times we strive to remember our core values and have framed this years annual report around them.

Each and every day is a blessing at St. Felix Centre!

Interim Leadership Team

AFTER 6 YEARS as Executive Director at SFC Paddy Bowen has left for new pastures. Paddy led several new and exciting projects for St Felix Centre including the development of St Felix House, our transitional home for women and a new lunch program at Jane & Wilson. Bella, her Old English Sheepdog, who was featured in last year’s report, is greatly missed by clients and the children from the After School Program. Paddy continues her mission to provide leadership within an organisation delivering essential programs to those less fortunate, this time in Hamilton. We wish both Paddy and Bella best wishes for the future.

ANOTHER YEAR HAS BECOME A HISTORY in the long life of St. Felix Centre. It was a year rich on events full of feelings and emotions.

We laughed with Anna at her Halloween and Christmas costumes, felt happy for Robert when he got housing, were worried when Blake did not show up for a couple of weeks and relieved when he came back, excited when we got approved for funding and disappointed if we were not, absolutely proud of accomplishments of our children in the After School Program and sad when our long term volunteer Jenny and our dearest friends Marshal, Jamie and David passed away...

Now looking forward to another year, which we are sure will be as challenging and exciting as every day at St. Felix Centre and we hope that what we here call “a St. Felix virus” will spread over and infect more people, the city, the country, the world...

Felician Core Values

THIS YEAR’S ANNUAL REPORT centers on the core values that guide us in our work at St. Felix Ministries: respect for the dignity of the person, compassionate service, transformation, justice, and responsiveness to need with commitment to the poor.Every day that I am privileged to spend at St. Felix Ministries, I see these values in action.

Supported by the Board of Directors and our generous donors, and assisted by the many volunteers who give of their time and talents, our staff is an extraordinary group of diverse, committed people who embody today the type of service we see in the lives of our patron saints. St. Francis of Assisi would surely find resonance with the joyful, kind, courteous, way people are offered life’s necessities and a safe, peaceful place to be, live, learn, play, and connect with others. St. Felix of Cantalice would delight in the

generosity of spirit and goods that ensure no one leaves empty-handed or empty-hearted. Blessed Mary Angela Truszkowska certainly would endorse our readiness to offer new or expanded services, to respond creatively to the needs of the community.

Being served in this way, people are able to live happier, more peace-filled lives, as God intends. This outcome tells us we are achieving our mission, a mission shared by all the ministries founded and sponsored by the Felician Sisters: the spiritual renewal of the world. In a small way, we are helping this wonderful yet troubled world in which we live be renewed in the spirit of Jesus, whose mission was that all experience the love and mercy of God. May our core values continue to unite, guide, and inspire us in all that we do at St. Felix Ministries.- Sister Shelley

The atmosphere does not feel like a free meal program. People find it very HELPFUL. It is very HUMAN.

Thank you for taking care of my baby. St. Felix Centre gives opportunities to volunteers who need EXTRA SUPPORT.

What stood out most about Dave was his amazing sense of humour. Even in light of all of his challenges he was always ready with a joke. He was a very special person who is definitely missed.- St. Felix Centre Staff
