Dear Parents

Thank you for the wonderful welcome I have received from the whole school community. St Joseph’s is blessed with a wonderful staff team, which can be very proud that its dedication to school improvement has been recognised by Mr Jonathan Brown – Her Majesty’s Inspector - in his most recent Inspection Report. This success would not be possible without the full backing and loyalty of our families. It is the aim of us all, here at St Joseph’s, to continue this partnership with you, to ensure your children receive the best ‘education for life’ possible. Although I am splitting my time 50:50 with St Matthew’s School in Jarrow I can assure you that I am fully committed to ensuring St Joseph’s School community continues to provide opportunities for all pupils to ‘Let their Light shine!’

Martin Humble – Interim Executive Head Teacher

Class 4 were visited by the transport police to learn all about how to keep safe around railway tracks and trains. They learned why it is important not to play around train tracks and the dangers to look out for. They also learned that train travel can be fun if safety rules are followed.

Toddler ClubToddler Club is running again every Tuesday from 2.15pm – 3.15pm in the Nursery. There is all sorts for your toddler to do from painting and building to making a cup of tea in our lovely home corner. Come and join in the fun, meet other parents and watch the children interact. £1 per session.

LexiaDon’t forget about Lexia. It would be really good if the children could access it and log on at home and spend some time on it. They need to spend 20 minutes on it for it to register and they have good fun using it! It is suitable for all abilities.

School UniformThe address is studentuniform.co.uk/sjps130

If you have any problems or questions with this please call in to the school office or call the school and Mrs Henderson will guide you through the process.

We no longer hold uniform in stock.

Please do not park on the double yellow lines. Please do not park on the corner blocking the road – a car was scratched by another last week as they could not get around the corner.

Police will be making regular spot checks and tickets will be issued.

ChatterbooksThe Library is holding a reading group called Chatterbooks. It’s for children aged between 8 and 11 and you can read and then share out opinions on children’s books. There are also quizzes, games and crafts based around children’s books. The club is on a Tuesday from 4.30pm – 5.30pm every four weeks and the next one is on 25th October.

The school photographer will be in school on 3rd November and children will be able to have an individual photograph taken and, for those with siblings, a family photograph.

Your child has been given a new lunchtime menu. If you would like to order your child a

school lunch please let Mrs Henderson know. Children in Ms Sedgwick and Miss Hopps classes are entitled to a free meal.

MacMillan Coffee MorningThank you very much to parents and family members for coming along and supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning – once we have finished the sale we should have raised around £100 which is a fantastic for a small school. Thank you!
