Brothers! When Christ our life appears, then you shall appear with him in glory. Put to death whatever in your nature is rooted in earth: forni-cation, uncleanness, passion, evil desires, and that lust which is idolatry. These are the sins which provoke God's wrath. Your own conduct was once of this sort, when these sins were your very life. You must put that aside now: all the anger and quick temper, the malice, the insults, the foul language. Stop lying to one an-other. What you have done is put aside your old self with its past deeds and put on a new man, one who grows in knowledge as he is formed anew in the image of his Creator. There is no Greek or Jew here, circumcised or uncircum-cised, foreigner Scythian, slave, or freeman. Rather, Christ is everything in all of you. needy members of the parish community, which for us is the Family of God: there must never be people who feel forgotten, abandoned and overlooked in their needs. Since love has no boundaries, acts of mer-cy have to go out and meet poor people, regardless of their nationality, social status, religious affiliation or political preferences. Let all who meet us through our sincere interest in them, good words and effec-tive help, feel the presence of the Merciful Father. Another of our duties this year is to become witnesses of God's mercy. Our faith teaches us to see the opportunity so that we may exercise our Evangelical vocation to witness the wonderful works of God's mercy in the world. Our brothers and sisters in our native land have always remembered this voca-tion. We recall how they witnessed Christ before the torturers and unjust judges in difficult times of per-secution. So today - when Ukrainian soldiers and those who support them physically and spiritually have become remarkable witnesses to the strength of love in the face of external aggression. All our faithful in Ukraine and throughout the World are called to become tireless evangelists of God's mercy, which has so clearly and generously manifested itself in the history of our Church and people. Indeed, the experi-ence of salvation in times of persecution and the power of God's love that still animates and leads our people is given to us not only for ourselves, but also as a sign of hope for a lost and fearful world. This sign, which is our history, speaks more with God’s than human words: "Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever" (Ps. 125: 1) and "But I will sing of your might; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been a fortress for me and a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to you, for you, O God, are my for-tress, the God who shows me steadfast love "(Ps. 59, 17-18). So do not be silent about God's great works, the works of the Lord’s mercy on us, so that all people, among whom we live, know that - He is our God, our salvation, and having recognized this, they will come closer to God in their hearts and in their works. In this Holy Year let us place ourselves and the world under the Protection of Mary the Mother of Mercy. "God is in its midst, it will not be shaken" (Ps. 46, 6) - these words of the psalmist are found in Saint Sophia – Holy Wisdom Cathedral in Kyiv, from which flows the spring of our forefather’s faith. They express the abiding confidence of our people in God's mighty protection for the city and the coun-try through the unstoppable prayers to our Heavenly Intercessor depicted on the “Indestructible wall”, The Kyiv Oranta. Our people in different parts of Ukraine and the world venerate the Virgin and beg her help through miracle-working icons. This year, with much love let us focus our thoughts and our pilgrim steps to the princely city of Yaroslav, a city, near the western border of Ukraine and Poland, where in the territory of the Przemysl - Warsaw Archeparchy we find our ancient and miraculous Icon of the Virgin - "Doors of Mercy". God in His providence has chosen the Most Holy Virgin as the "door" through which He came to mankind in His Only Begotten Son, incarnate through the power and action of the Holy Spir-it. May this same Spirit may fill our hearts with God's love and mercy. May it transform our lives, making us a images of the presence and work of our merciful Father in the world. May we be accompa-nied this year by The Most Holy Virgin - Mother of Mercy, and all the saints and righteous of the Ukrainian land - faithful witnesses of God's mercy and God’s love! Dearly Beloved in Christ! Together with the Universal Church we are entering into a time of special grace -The Holy

Year, which, according to the will of the Holy Father, Pope Francis, will last from 8th. December 2015 to 26th November 2016.

This year, which is also called an Extraordinary Jubilee Year, has been dedicated by the Pope to God's mercy. This is a time of God's special blessings, to undertake a pilgrimage to a Cathedral in our Local or Universal Church. This is a time for healing the wounds of body and soul, a return to God - a rediscovery of Mercy. Standing on the threshold of the Jubilee Year, let us reflect on how we accept God’s Mercy, how we live it and how we testify about it to ourselves, our neighbors and all people so that we may take advantage of the many spiritual fruits of this fertile time. When God desired to reveal himself to man, to introduce us to Himself and reveal the truth about Himself, he described Himself, first of all, as The Merciful God. Revealing His glory to Moses at Sinai, the Lord said of himself: "a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in stead-fast love and faithfulness" (Ex. 34: 6). God, the Father has poured upon us his merciful love in his Son Jesus Christ. This is what our Saviour taught when he said to his disciples, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life" (Jn. 3, 16). Being a Christian is to first of all believe in God's mercy for ourselves,- to believe in God's love. The Evangelist John emphasizes this sharing of faith saying, "So we know and believed the love that God has for us" (I Jn. 4, 16). An important aspect of this Holy Year is an. invitation to everyone to receive God's mercy. It is given to us, - the Church, by the Holy Spirit - the Spirit of God's love. To personally accept and live this mercy we turn to the Holy Mystery of Penance or Reconciliation. Unfortunately, in many parts of the world this Sacrament is almost forgotten, rarely preached about and even more rarely gone to. The reasons for this sad state of affairs are many, but in the first place there is less knowledge and experi-ence of God's presence and as a consequence, a loss of a sense of sin. Our great desire is that the faith-ful of our Church use the Year of God's Mercy to rediscover, appreciate and experience more frequent-ly the Source of Mercy, which the Lord has revealed to us sinners in the Mystery of Penance. This ap-peal I direct to Pastors who have a duty to administer the Mystery to the faithful. I also appeal particu-larly to those baptized persons who call themselves Christians, but rarely confess and therefore have no ability to live God's mercy and to receive God’s love. A particular requirement of anyone who experiences this Holy Year is to share God's mercy. Our motto this year will be the words "Merciful like the Father" that resonate from the call of our Lord Jesus to his disciples: "Be merciful, as your Father is merciful" (Lk. 6, 36). These words remind us that the gift of mercy that we ourselves receive from Our Lord requires us to be merciful to our neighbours. In this way we not only express our gratitude to God for His mercy on us, but reveal to our neighbours the face and gracious presence of God in this world, a world that is so frequently scarred by human suffering, loneliness, fear and hopelessness. Faithful of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, no mat-ter on which continent of globe they live, feel the suffering and pain of millions of citizens of Ukraine caused by an unjust war against us. Therefore, we must use every opportunity that presents itself to be merciful. I call upon all our faithful to remember the Church's teaching on specific works of mercy for the soul and the body, for individuals and for the wider community, showing all the love and creativity and drawing on our faith to implement them in everyday life. Mercy washes away our sins, transforms our hearts and our lives and brings us closer to God through a transformation - to become more like Him. Our mercy should primarily be directed to our family members and neighbours, so that in the words of, Pope Francis the door of every home becomes "the door of mercy". Let us be attentive to the

At that time the Lord said this parable: ''A man was giving a large dinner and he invited many. At dinner time he sent his servant to say to those invited, 'Come along, everything is ready now.' But they began to excuse themselves, one and all. The first one said to the servant, 'I have bought some land and must go out and inspect it. Please excuse me.' Another said, 'I have bought five yoke of oxen and I am going out to test them. Please excuse me.' A third said, 'I am newly married and so I cannot come.' The servant returning reported all this to his master. The master of the house grew angry at the account. He said to his servant, 'Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the town and bring in the poor and the crip-pled, the blind and the lame.' The servant re-ported, after some time, 'Your orders have been carried out, my lord, and there is still room.' The master then said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and along the hedgerows and force them to come in. I want my house to be full, but I tell you that not one of those invited shall taste a morsel of my din-ner. For many are called, but few are chosen.'

скероване передусім до найближчих – членів родини, сусідів, аби двері кожного християнського дому, за словами Папи Франциска, стали «дверима милосердя». Звернімо увагу і на потребуючих членів парафіяльної спільноти, яка є для нас Божою родиною: у ній не повинно бути осіб, які почу-ваються забутими, покинутими та непоміченими у своїх нуждах. Але, оскільки любов не має меж, ділами милосердя маємо виходити назустріч усім убогим людям, не зважаючи на їх національність, соціальний статус, релігійну приналежність чи політичні вподобання. Нехай усі, зустрівши нас, через наше щире зацікавлення, добре слово і дієву допомогу відчують присутність милосердного Отця.

Окремим нашим обов’язком цього Року є свідчити про Боже милосердя. Свят а віра каж е нам бачити нагоду здійснювати наше євангельське покликання: свідчити про великі діла Божого милосердя перед усім світом. Наші брати і сестри на рідних землях завжди пам’ятали про це по-кликання. Згадаймо хоча б те, як вони свідчили Христа перед мучителями і неправедними суддями в лихоліття переслідувань. Тому й сьогодні - коли українські воїни і ті, що підтримують їх фізично й духовно, складають подиву гідне свідчення сили любові перед лицем зовнішньої агресії - усі наші вірні, в Україні і на поселеннях, покликані ставати невтомними благовісниками Божого мило-сердя, яке так явно і по-Божому великодушно проявилося в історії нашої Церкви й рідного народу. Справді, досвід спасіння в часи переслідувань і сила Божої любові, яка донині оживляє і провадить наш народ, дана нам не лише задля нас самих, а і як знак надії для розгубленого і сповненого три-воги людства. Цей знак, яким є наша історія, говорить більше Божими, ніж людськими словами: «Ті, які звіряються на Господа, - подібні до гори Сіон, що не хитається, що пробуває вічно» (Пс. 125, 1) і «Я співатиму про Твою силу, і веселитимусь уранці Твоїм милосердям; бо Ти став захи-стом для мене, прибіжищем у скрутну для мене днину. О моя сило! Тобі псалом співатиму, бо Ти, Боже, - мій захист. Мій Бог - моє милосердя!» (Пс. 59, 17-18). Тож не замовчуймо величних Божих діл, діл Господнього милосердя над нами, щоб усі народи, серед яких живемо, пізнали, що Він - наш Бог, наше спасіння, а пізнавши, наблизилися до Нього у своєму серці й у своїх ділах.

У цей Святий рік віддаймо себе і весь світ під Покров Богородиці – Матері Милосердя. «Бог серед нього, воно не похитнеться» (Пс. 46, 6) - ці слова псалмоспівця знаходимо в соборі Свя-тої Софії Премудрості Божої в місті Києві, де б’ється джерело нашої прабатьківської віри. Вони виражають віковічну впевненість нашого народу в могутній Божій опіці над містом і країною зав-дяки неустанним молитвам нашої Небесної Заступниці - Нерушимої стіни, Київської Оранти.

Наш народ у різних куточках України та світу почитає Богородицю та благає її допомоги в чудотворних іконах. Цього року з особливою любов’ю скеровуватимемо наші думки і паломницькі кроки до княжого міста Ярослав, що неподалік від західного кордону України з Польщею, де на теренах Перемишльсько-Варшавської архиєпархії перебуває наша стародавня чудотворна ікона Богородиці «Двері милосердя». Господь у своєму Провидінні вибрав Пресвяту Діву як «двері», че-рез які Він сам прийшов до людства у своєму єдинородному Сині, воплоченому силою і діянням Святого Духа.

Той же Дух нехай наповнить і наші серця Божою любов’ю і милосердям. Нехай Він пе-ремінить наше життя, зробивши нас знаком присутності й діяння у світі милосердного Отця. Нехай нас цього Року супроводжують своєю опікою Пречиста Діва – Мати милосердя, й усі святі та пра-ведники української землі – вірні свідки Божого милосердя і Божої любові!

Дорогі в Христі! Разом з усією Вселенською Церквою входимо в благодатний час особливого Святого року,

який, за волею Святішого Отця Франциска, триватиме від 8 грудня 2015 року до 26 листопада 2016 року. Цей Рік, який називаємо теж Надзвичайним ювілейним роком, Папа присвятив Божому милосердю. Це час особливих Божих благодатей, пов’язаних із паломництвами до визначних кате-дральних соборів у всій нашій помісній і Вселенській Церкві, час зцілення ран душі й тіла, повер-нення до Бога, віднайдення Джерела милосердя. Стоячи на порозі цього Ювілейного року, заду-маймося над тим, як нам прийняти Боже милосердя, ним жити і про нього свідчити, щоб ми самі, наші ближні та весь наш народ могли якнайбільше скористати з духовних плодів цього благодат-ного часу.

Коли Господь забажав об’явити себе людині, познайомити нас із собою і відкрити істину про себе, то Він назвав себе насамперед Богом милосердним. Показуючи Мойсеєві свою славу в синайському явленні, наш Господь так сказав про себе: «Бог милосердний і ласкавий, нескорий на гнів, могомилостивий та вірний» (Вих. 34, 6). Проте вповні Бог Отець вилив на нас свою мило-сердну любов у власному Сині, Ісусі Христі. Про це наш Спаситель навчав своїх учнів словами: «Бо так Бог полюбив світ, що Сина свого єдинородного дав, щоб кожен, хто вірує в Нього, не за-гинув, а жив життям вічним» (Ів. 3, 16). Бути християнином означає насамперед повірити в Боже милосердя щодо себе, повірити в Божу любов. Євангелист Іван дуже наголошує на цьому, ділить-ся з нами своєю вірою і каже: «Ми пізнали і увірували в ту любов, яку Бог має до нас» (І Ів. 4, 16).

Особливим закликом цього Святого року є запрошення прийняти кожному Боже милосер-дя. Воно подаєт ься нам у Церкві Духом Свят им – Духом Божої любові. Особисто прийняти і пере-жити це милосердя можна у Святому Таїнстві Сповіді, або Примирення. На жаль, у багатьох ча-стинах світу це Таїнство майже забуте, про нього мало проповідують, а ще менше до нього при-ступають. Причин такого сумного стану речей багато, але на перше місце виходить щоразу менше знання і переживання Божої присутності та – як наслідок цього – втрата відчуття гріха. Тому нашим великим бажанням є, щоб вірні нашої Церкви в контексті Року Божого милосердя наново пізнали, оцінили і більше користали з Джерела милосердя, яке Господь відкрив нам, грішним лю-дям, у Таїнстві Покаяння. Цей заклик скеровую до душпастирів, які мають обов’язок уділяти вір-ним це Таїнство. Із закликом прийняти Божу любов звертаюся особливо до тих охрещених осіб, які звуть себе християнами, однак рідко сповідаються і тому не мають живого доступу до Божого милосердя.

Особливим завданням кожного, хто переживатиме цей Святий рік, є ділитися Божим милосердям. Нашим гаслом цього Року будуть слова «Милосердні як Отець», що перегукуються із закликом Господа Ісуса до своїх учнів: «Будьте милосердні, як і Отець ваш милосердний» (Лк. 6, 36). Вони нагадують нам, що в дарі милосердя, яке ми самі отримуємо від Господа, водночас вкла-дений і заклик до милосердя, котрий маємо скеровувати до наших ближніх. Бо в такий спосіб ми не тільки виявимо нашу вдячність Богові за Його милості щодо нас, а й об’явимо ближнім об-личчя і присутність милостивого Бога в цьому світі, так часто позначеному людськими страждан-нями, самотністю, страхом і безнадією. Українська Греко-Католицька Церква, незалежно від того, на якому континенті Земної кулі проживають її вірні, особливо відчуває в цей святий час болі і страждання мільйонів громадян України, спричинені несправедливою війною супроти нас. Тому нагод чинити милосердя сьогодні маємо доволі.

Закликаю всіх наших вірних пригадати собі вчення Церкви про конкретні діла милосердя щодо душі і щодо тіла ближнього та, проявивши всю креативність любові та вразливість віри, осо-бисто і з громадою втілювати їх у щоденному житті. Милосердя змиває наші гріхи, перемінює наші серця і нас самих наближає до Бога через уподібнення до Нього. Наше милосердя нехай буде

cert at the Basilica of Sacred Heart (89 Ridge Street , Newark, NJ 07104). The doors of the basilica will open at 7:00 and the concert will begin at 8:00 pm. (Same concert both nights) Admission by voluntary donations.

For those who mourn, immerse them in Your love

and lead them through this darkness into Your arms, and light. For those who comfort,

be with them in both the words they use and all that’s left unspoken;

fill each heart with love. Bring the innocent, the guilty,

the injured, the widowed, the politicians, the peacemakers

and the relief workers – compassion, sustenance, repentance, forgiveness, healing, love

and a peace that can endure.

Ми молимось за всіх, котрих випадково, чи з людського наміру

торкнулася якась трагедія. Oбійми Своєю любов’ю

тих, хто засмучений, і випровадь їх з темноти

до світла та у Свої обійми. Тим, хто потішає,

будь при кожному їхньому промовленому

чи не промовленому слові; наповни кожне серце любов’ю.

Принеси невинним, їхнім злочинцям, травмованим,

повдовілим, політикам, миротворцям та рятувальникам співчуття, підтримку, покаяння,

прощення, зцілення, любов та тривалий мир і спокій.
