Charity & Justice Committee Donation Barrel for July

9TH ANNUAL SCHOOL SHOES FOR KIDS St. Joseph Parish is collecting athletic shoes and socks again this year thru Aug 4th for this event. Fill the donation barrel in the Church foyer over the next 5 weeks! Last year 1496 pairs of shoes and socks were collected by churches and individuals for Mission Community Outreach Center of Spo-kane and the goal this year is to collect 1,700 pairs of shoes and socks for this event. They will be given out on Fri, Aug 16th to help children in our commu-nity. If you would like to volunteer some time on this day, please email MCOC at [email protected]. If you know of any families who could benefit from this event please send them to www.4mission.org. Thank you for your generosity!

FYI: For the rest of August we will be collecting school supplies for Otis Orchards students: back-packs, Dixon Ticonderoga wooden pencils, large pink erasers and pencil top erasers, composition books, crayons, and glue sticks

Workshop on Prayer Fr Mike will be offering a 4 part work-shop on prayer this summer. The dates will be Tuesdays, August 6, 13, 20, 27, 7:00–8:15pm. The theme is “Praying with Scripture”: learning to listen to God using Lectio

EXPOSITION OF THE EUCHARIST This wonderful devotion is available every week. Exercises for Adoration: Think about the conversations that Jesus had with his Father in Heaven. Consider their intimate relationship. Mt 6:9-13, Jn 11:41-42, Lk 23:34, John 17 (the entire chapter), additionally, there are so many places where Jesus went off in solitude to pray to his Father.

Nightwalk The House of Charity provides breakfast and lunch meal service to the general patrons. We make sandwiches on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month, the next being Tuesday, August 13th at 9am. Please keep our homeless friends in your prayers. St. Gabriel’s Group (Mom’s Group) The Mom’s will continue to meet through the summer for fellowship, quiet reflec-tion and prayer. In the fall, the group will continue their study of the book Mother’s Rule of Life. Women of all ages are welcome to join them on Wednesdays, 9:30-11:30am with child care provid-ed. Give and Receive Club Last year Catholic Charities started a retirement volunteer club aimed at engaging retirees in mean-ingful service. This program offers members the op-portunity for monthly visits/tours to each of the local service sites that will include a service project. This unique club fosters community for its members as they serve alongside each other and partake in shared experiences such as Mass, reflection and sharing about their volunteer experiences. The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Group A 12-week program will be offered to help you or someone you know with navigating the spiritual and emotional challenges of divorce. 4th Annual "Holy-in-One" Golf Tournament Please mark your calendar for Sisters of Mary, Moth-er of the Church, "Holy-in-One" Golf Tournament to be held on Mon, September 9th at Downriver Golf Course, location: 3225 N Columbia Circle. 18 hole golf tournament, scramble format, shotgun start at 12:30pm, competition prizes, beverage cart filled with snacks and cold beverages. Bite2Go Through our parish support of the Bite 2 Go pro-gram at 2nd Harvest, 24 students at Otis Orchards Elementary have been provided with weekend food supplies this school year. Please see the thank you poster in the hallway from the children at Otis.

Hundreds of community volunteers donated more than 7,000 hours packing the Bite2Go food kits for schoolchildren in need.

4th Annual Pilgrim Celebration ALL ARE WELCOME (pilgrims and pilgrim want-to-be’s) to gather for the 4th Annual Pilgrim Cele-bration of the Feast of St. James. This Sunday, July 28th, Sacred Heart Church (219 E Rockwood Blvd, Spokane). 5:00pm Mass, 6:00pm dinner. RSVP 509-747-5810 or [email protected]. Those planning to walk the Camino in the coming year will receive the ancient Pilgrim blessing, their pilgrim shell, and the first credencial stamp. Former pilgrims will share their experiences.

Guatemala Commission Quilt Raffle Fund Raiser The diocesan Guatemala Commission will be raffling off a beautiful quilt at their Annual Celebration September 16th, 5:30-8pm. They are selling raffle tickets at $2 each, with the money raised being sent to the mission to help the religious education pro-gram in Ixtahuacan. A flyer with a picture of the quilt is in the hallway. This beautiful quilt is hand appliqued and quilted. The drawing will take place at the Celebration but you need not be present to win.
