USSR Creating Lifelong Readers Creating Lifelong Readers

Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body. It dares people to grow and

challenges their perspectives. It is definitely one of the most important skills one needs in

order to learn; and because learning is forever, reading should be, too. This is why it is

vital to make students appreciate reading not only as a school activity but also a skill that

they can use and carry beyond the classroom.

The Uninterrupted Sustained Silent Reading (USSR) is a program that the school does

once a month. This month, it will be on Tuesday, September 17. In its practice, the stu-

dents typically bring a reading material of their choice and for 30 minutes, they will be

given the chance to recreationally read. Any reading material is encouraged so long as

they are wholesome and age-appropriate. The school believes that this activity does not

only improve students’ silent reading skills but also imbibes (or fuels) the students’ passion

towards reading since they are reading on their own pace and they get to choose a

reading material that suits their interest.

age its students to dream?

Parents and guardians of Valiant Knights!

You are all invited to an interactive learning session about the 5Cs Curriculum.

Please take note of the schedule:

· Thursday, September 19, will be for Parents of 1st to 12th Grade Students. This will be

· Friday, September 20, will be for Parents of Pre-School Students. This will be held at

the SSIS Batangas Main Hall from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

The 5Cs – Competence, Character, Commitment, Collaboration, and Creativity

– are principles on which the school bases its activities that are deemed needed to

translate educational goals into concrete observable change in students. This event is

designed for you to participate in different activities that will let you understand the

school’s curriculum and appreciate the kind of education that your children are re-

ceiving because at the end of the day, the success of the students is a product of our

combined efforts. Information and appreciation are KEY to a good collaboration.

We’ll see you there!

Your children need to keep themselves clean to remain

healthy and to feel good about themselves. Good personal hy-

giene will help boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Everyone needs to keep clean to kill germs and avoid get-

ting sick. Good personal hygiene also boosts confidence by

dealing with problems like bad breath or body odor.

For children, the basics of good personal hygiene are:

washing hands

covering their mouth when they cough

having regular baths or showers

brushing and flossing teeth.

For teenagers, the same basics are expected to keep a

healthy lifestyle, with a few additions:

Shave regularly.

Take care of any injuries as they happen and until

they are healed.

Use personal hygiene products correctly, including

deodorant, feminine hygiene products, facial acne

cleansers, etc.

You may have to help your child practice good personal

hygiene habits. These will become even more important as they

grow older and approach puberty. Being able to talk openly

and honestly about keeping clean will help you manage the

more difficult personal hygiene issues that are likely to come up

later on in their lives.

One who maintains cleanliness keeps diseases away.
