STORK STORIES
The Sound of -or-
TIPS FOR PRINTING & USE:
If possible, print on card stock and laminate or cover with clear contact paper for durability.
Ideas for use: 1. Print page 3 back-to-back with page 4 andcut out around cards. Print the remaining pag-es and cut out around sentence strips.2. For one player, have them match all or se-lected cards to all or selected sentence strips.3. For a group, divide sentence strips evenlyamong players and place cards in a pile be-tween them. On each turn, players pick onecard and try to fit it to one of their sentencestrips, passing the card to the right to otherplayers if it does not fit. The winner is the firstto complete all their sentences.4. Give participants each several cards andhave them make up a story - individually or together - using all or most of their words.

TIPS FOR PRINTING & USE: If possible, print on card stock and laminate or cover with clear contact paper for durability. Ideas for use: 1. Print 1 copy of page 6 for each two players, and 1 copy of page 2 back-to-back with pages 3to 5 for each two to five players. Cut outaround corn cards, either on lines or aroundcorn cobs. Cut out the two playing boards onpage 6, cut out a notch at each dotted line, andgive each player one board. Mix up the corncards and place in a loose pile between players, corn side up.2. On each turn, players pick one corn card, flip it over, and read the word out loud to thegroup. If they have a space remaining, theythen slide the card into a slot on their board -ar words to the left and or words to the right.3. When a card with a red word is drawn, theplayer may draw 2 additional cards from thepile IF they already have either that word, or aword that rhymes with it. If not, it is used likea regular card. Unused cards are placed backinto the pile, and the winner is the first to get 6ar and 6 or words to fill their board.

R-CONTROLLED FITS
-er, -ir, and -ur Words
TIPS FOR PRINTING & USE:
If possible, print on card stock and laminate or cover with clear contact paper for durability. Ideas for use: 1. Make one to six copies of the next page andcut out around cards. Using an exacto or othercraft knife, cut along dotted lines to make asimple flap. Bend each flap up SLIGHTLY.2. Make one copy each of the next four pages, and cut out around “white” cards.3. Give children at least two of each card withflaps, plus all or selected white cards withanimal pics. Have children guess which ismissing in each word (-er, -ir, or -ur) and slidethe white card under the flap of a colored cardto see if it fits. Each card will “fit” only onecolor card without going well outside the insidewhite rectangle, making this an ideal self-correcting exercise.4. If desired, have children record the wordsthey make on the last page.

BIRD TRACKS
Phonics: -er- -ir- -ur-
TIPS FOR PRINTING & USE: If possible, print on card stock and laminate or cover with clear contact paper for durability. Ideas for use: 1. Use the first two pages for a 2-piece playingboard. Print the next page back-to-back withthe last two pages and cut into 48 cards. Shuf-fle the deck and place face-down (bird side up),half on each side of the board. Give each play-er a small item to use for a place marker:a lego, coin, bean, or regular game marker.Have a coin ready for flipping.2. All players put their marker on start and oneach turn, flip the coin to determine how manyspaces to move forward: 1 space for heads and2 spaces for tails. Move clockwise around theboard from start to finish.3. On a normal space, draw a card from eitherdeck and read the word out loud to the group. If the word has the same spelling (-er, -ir, or-ur) as the space landed on, the player keepsthe card. Otherwise, it is placed in a discardpile off the board. On a “backward” space(black) the player must come up with a wordusing that spelling. If correct, they draw 2additional cards. The winner is the playerwith the most cards after ALL players makeit to finish.
