FESTIVAL ON LINE ARTES DIGITAIS #09_2013

The On Line Festival for Digital Arts reaches its 9th edition under the paradigm shift and renewal. Centered on the Space for Arts, Media & Performance, aims to celebrate the 50 years of video art by intervention projects in unconventional spaces and experimenting with new languages and forms of presentation of digital arts. In these 50 years, video art has evolved into supporting bracket, from television monitors to the projections on large building facades, through several different surfaces and supports, in which mixture of different arts ele-ments make video a kind of chameleon that is transformed according to the location and the surface on which it stands.Video art is undoubtedly the great art of this century, on this new era that begins full of transformeed potential, challenging new ways for society. The multiplicity of forms which video art contains demonstrates the versatility of this artistic medium , adapting to the location and time in there particular way of being: the same piece seems to change when it is presented in different places and in different contexts.The same paradigm lives digital art, including Web art that, while captive by the screen of a computer,it is transformed into new forms.It is this versatility that FONLAD Festival aims to present through a number of initiatives in several unconventional spaces, ranging from the common room to the monumental space of a museum, the public space to a private garden.To test new ways of presentation of video art, photography and digital art in he’s new headquarters space, trying to bring to the “street” these new forms of art.In 2013 we will continue to invest in training and performing artist residencies, exhibitions and international video interventions in unconventional spaces, supported by partnerships with some of the most important international festivals in Europe such as Magmart (Italy), Miden (Greece), Proyector (Spain), VideoPlay (Argentina), AIVA (Sweden) and Cologne OFF (Germany).

O Festival On Line de Artes Digitais chega à sua 9ª edição sob o paradigma da viragem e da renovação. Centrado no Espaço de Artes, Multimédia e Performance, pretende-se celebrar os 50 anos da vídeo arte através da realização de projectos de intervenção em espaços não convencionais e a experimentação de novas linguagens e formas de apresentação das artes digitais. Nestes 50 anos a vídeo arte tem evoluído de suporte em suporte, desde o monitor de televisão às projecções em grandes fachadas de edifícios, passando por variadíssimos suportes e superfícies, numa miscigenação que tornam a vídeo arte numa espécie de camaleão que se transfigura em função do local e da superfície em que se apresenta.A vídeo arte é sem dúvida a grande arte deste século, desta nova era que se inicia cheia de potencial transformador, desafiando novos caminhos para a sociedade. A multiplicidade de formas que se reveste demonstra a própria versatilidade deste meio artístico, adaptando-se ao local e à época na sua particular maneira de ser: a mesma peça parece modificar-se quando é apresentada em espaços diferentes e em contextos diferentes.O mesmo paradigma vive a arte digital, nomeada-mente a Web arte que, apesar de prisioneira do ecrã de um computador, se transfigura e ensaia em novas formas.É esta versatilidade que o Festival Fonlad pretende apresentar através de um conjunto de iniciativas em variados espaços não convencionais, indo desde a sala comum ao espaço monumental de um museu, do espaço público ao jardim privado.Ensaiará novas formas de apresentação da fotografia e da arte dita digital no seu novo espaço sede, procurando trazer para a “rua” estas novas formas da arte.Em 2013 continuaremos a apostar na formação e na realização de residências artísticas, mostras vídeo internacionais e intervenções em espaços não convencionais, suportadas por parcerias com alguns dos mais importantes festivais internacionais da Europa como o Magmart (Itália), Miden (Grécia), Proyector (Espanha), Videoplay (Argentina), AIVA (Suécia) e Cologne OFF (Alemanha).

EditorialPresentation

“The Golden Age” is a project that plays on the the-mes of metamorphosis, mutation, power, identity and relationship. It plays with these themes through the use of a magnetized golden masks. In the per-formance area is a “carpet” of iron objects: cutlery, broken toys, refrigerator magnets, nails and bolts, cans… it looks like the dump of a big city, one of those polluted cemeteries full of sad and intrusive wrecks of everyday life.The performance is an epic struggle between Reason and Chaos, between the golden mask and the rub-bish, between the illusion of Eternity promised by Power and the slow process of corrosion of History, devouring every human enterprise.Interaction design and computer vision devices will give more visual power to the struggle, transforming all the movements on stage into interactive sound and visuals.

Francesca Fini Videoartista e performer, vive e tra-balha em Roma. Aproximou-se do mundo da arte contemporânea em 2000, quando conheceu o artis-ta conceptual americano Kristin Jones, e começou a colaborar no projeto “Tevereterno” na criação de equipamentos urbanos para a cidade de Roma. Ac-tualmente participa como videoartista e performer em exposições em museus e galerias de todo o mun-do e festivais internacionais, como Magmart, Colog-ne Off, FONLAD, Berlin Directors Lounge, Videohlica, Contravision Film Fest, WRO New Media Art Bienna-le, Streaming Festival, FILE - Festival Internacional de Linguagem Eletrónica, FAD Brasil, Athens Video Art Festival, LPM Live Performers Meeting e muitos outros. Em março de 2012 foi um dos vencedores do Festival de Videoarte Magmart com o vídeo “Blood”. Ela foi recentemente convidada a participar do “Ve-nice International Performance Art Week”, com Yoko Ono e Hermann Nitsch entre os outros (http://www.veniceperformanceart.org).

Francesca Fini Videoartist and live media performer li-ving and working in Rome. She approached the world of contemporary art in 2000, when she met the Ame-rican conceptual artist Kristin Jones, and began colla-borating on the “Tevereterno” (Eternal Tiber) project, creating urban installations for the City of Rome. She currently participates as a videoartist and live media performer in exhibitions in museums and galleries around the world and international festivals such as Magmart, Cologne Off, Fonlad, Berlin Directors Loun-ge, Videohlica, Contravision Film Fest, WRO New Me-dia Art Biennale, Streaming Festival, File - Electronic Language International Festival, FAD Brasil, Athens Videoart Festival, LPM Live Performers Meeting and many others. In march 2012 she was among the winners of Magmart Videoart Festival with the video “Blood”. She was recently invited to take part to the “Venice International Performance Art Week”, featu-ring Yoko Ono and Hermann Nitsch among the others (http://www.veniceperformanceart.org).

“A Era de Ouro” é um projeto que se relaciona so-bre temas como a metamorfose, mutação, poder, identidade e relacionamento. Joga com estes temas utilizando uma máscara de ouro magnetizada. Na zona da performance um “tapete” de objetos de ferro: talheres, brinquedos quebrados, imãs de frigorifico, pregos e parafusos, latas ... parece a lixeira de uma grande cidade, um desses cemitérios poluídos cheios de destroços tristes e intrusivos na nossa vida de todos os dias.A performance é uma luta épica entre a Razão e o Caos, entre a máscara de ouro e o lixo, entre a ilusão da eternidade prometida pelo poder e o lento processo de corrosão da História, devorando cada empreendimento humano.Design interactivo e dispositivos electrónicos dão mais poder visual à luta, transformando todos os movimentos em som interativo e imagens.

“Allegorical metaphors - Via Vir tual”. Na ac-tual série de obras que explora mais o espaço privado inato, decidi explorar o potencial de expressões sócio-políticas, pessoais e emo-cionais levantadas sobre a auto-ideologia e a consciência através do meu trabalho ar tísti-co.Desenvolve-se em torno da variedade, da complexidade, da beleza e da expressão, justapondo o domínio das novas tecno-logias dos novos midia, que traz a abre-viatura para a expressão ar tística lidar com a realidade das vivências humanas mundanas.

Vijayaraghavan é mestre em pintura pelo College of Art, de Nova Delhi. Participou em várias mostras e bienais internacionais. Em 2012, “SARAI READER 09” com curadoria de Raqs Media Collective numa colaboração entre a Fundação de Arte Devi e Sarai - CDT e apoiado pela Embaixada da Noruega, em Nova Delhi. 25 ª edição do Festival INSTANTES VÍ-DEO, França. Foi artista convidado para a 4 ª edição da “Viareggio Art Project”, Villa Paolina Bonaparte Museu de Viareggio, em Itália. 25 ª edição do festival Instants Vídeo, em La Friche La Belle de Mai, Fran-ça. 2011 Video Project Fugitive apresentado na EM-MEDIA Gallery & Production Society, Canadá. 2010 “Art & Cinema” - “Art mart” em epi-centro, Gurgaon, Curadoria de Sushma Bahl. Transmissão do vídeo do projeto Arte MENESA e apresentado na ikono TV, Berlin, Alemanha. Projeto Vídeo fugitivo representa-do na Solus @ Filmbase, Dublin, Irlanda, Canadá. MVMA Fest 2010, Marfa TX, Co-Lab, organizado pelo Coletivo Birdhouse em Austin, TX, 10 Festival Ver-sion, Chicago. Vive e trabalha em Nova Deli.

Vijayaraghavan has earned a MFA degree with a ma-jor in painting from the College of Art in New Delhi. He had participated various shows and biennials across the country. “Allegorical metaphors - Via Virtual”. The current series of works which explores more into innate private space I determined to exploit the potential of socio-political, personal and emotional expressions raised over self-ideology and consciousness through my ar t work.My work evolves around the variety, complexity, beauty and expression; juxtapo-sing the realm of new media technologies, that brings abbreviation to an ar tistic expression dealing with reality of the mundane human life experiences.

Na sua nona edição, o Festival Fonlad apresenta um conjunto de video instalações centradas no Es-paço de Artes Multimédia e Performance que cul-minarão com o evento de Video Mapping no Con-vento dos Anjos em Montemor-o-Velho.Procurando consolidar esta forma de arte, realizar--se-á um workshop de video cujos trabalhos finais constarão de realização de 5 video instalações.

In its nine edition, FONLAD Festival presents a set of video installations centered on the Space for Media Arts and Performance, culminating in a event with Video Mapping at Convento dos Anjos in Montemor-o-Velho.Seeking to consolidate this form of art, it will take place a workshop in video art whose final work will consist on performing 5 video installations.

HEP - Human Emotion ProjectHuman Emotion Project aims to capture and interpret an array of HUMAN emotions through sound, video and film in an internatio-nal collaboration of artists. Human Emotion Project is a non-profit group. Drawn together by the art that they share via the internet, artists with disparate cultural and aesthetic identities approach the internal workings that exist in all humans. Emotions are inherently difficult to explicate. How does one describe fear?We know it when we feel it but how can we share, through the paltry use of language, our experience of it? Moving images,mostly embe-llished with sound, extend the expressive possibilities beyond what can be accomplished through language or even static imagery. By employing the largest palette of creative possibilities, film and video artists from around the world strive to externalize those complex dri-ving forces that we all enjoy and endure and that bind us, as humani-ty, together despite our differences.

HEP - Human Emotion ProjectHuman Emotion Project tem como objetivo captar e interpretar um conjunto de emoções humanas através do som, vídeo e filme em colaboração com vários artistas internacionais. HEP é um grupo sem fins lucrativos. Elaborado em conjunto com variados artistas com diferentes identidades estéticas e backgrounds culturais, que compartilham a sua arte através da internet, abordam os mecanis-mos internos que existem em todos os seres humanos. As emoções são inerentemente difíceis de explicar. Como descrever o medo?Sabemos quando sentimos isso, mas como podemos comparti-lhar, através do uso insignificante da linguagem, a nossa experiên-cia? As imagens em movimento, ampliam as possibilidades expres-sivas para além do que pode ser conseguido através da linguagem ou a aparência, mesmo estática. Ao empregar a maior paleta de possibilidades criativas, artistas de todo o mundo esforçam--se em exteriorizar as forças motrizes complexas que todos nós reconhecemos e suportamos, como humanidade, apesar das nossa diferenças.

MIDEN FestivalFestival Miden, the first Greek video art festival presented in open public spaces, is an annual video art & new media cultural event held in Kalamata, GR. It is an independent organization founded, organized and curated by a team of contemporary Greek artists.Since 2005, Festival Miden has been gradually established as one of the most successful and interesting video art festivals in Greece and abroad and has been a significant point of cultural exchange for Greek and international video art, creating an alternative, peripheral meeting point for emerging and established video artists.

MIDEN FestivalMiden, o primeiro festival de vídeo arte grego apresen-tado em espaços públicos abertos, é um evento anual de vídeo arte e novos média realizado em Kalamata, Grécia. VIDEOPLAY Videoplay is an Argentina-based international platform for the dissemination of videoart over the world. This initiative started in 2004 by the visual artist and curator Silvio De Gracia.Videoplay is focusing especially on the gender of the video-performance and other works which, though not clearly framed within the category of art-action, reflect a deep anchorage in the performatic sphere. The main purpose is to spread the videoperformance made by artists from around the world, especially Latin American artists.

VIDEOPLAYVideoPlay é uma plataforma internacional com sede na Argentina para a divulgação da videoarte no mundo inteiro. Foi iniciada em 2004 pelo artista visual e curador Silvio De Gracia.VideoPlay concentra-se actualmente no género da videoperformance e outras obras que, embora não claramente enquadradas na categoria de arte de ac-ção, apresentem uma profunda reflexão na esfera performática. O principal objectivo é espalhar a vi-deoperformance feita por artistas de todo o mundo, especialmente latino-americanos.

PROYECTOR International Video Art FestivalThe present video selection have the comun theme of pretende to aproximate to the borders conflicts, politics, socials from a artistic gaze, but with critique and irony. Where concepts like flags, anthens or homeland or nathionalisr, have no more sense.They speak about Gorbachev, the borders of México with USA, the killer Nature, without forgot social demostrations in Spain, the Irak´s War, the Universal Declarations of the Human Rights, or the China´s censure. Very diferents personals and poetics visions of a society that begin to awake in the world that they parent didn´t dream.

PROYECTOR Festival Internacional de Video ArteProyector apresenta uma selecção de vídeos tendo como elo comum o aproximar de fronteiras, dispu-tas políticas, o social, visto a partir de um olhar artístico mas crítico, onde conceitos como “ban-deira”, “hino” ou “pátria” deixaram de ter qualquer sentido.Desde Gorbachev, a fronteira do México com os EUA, e a selvagem natureza predatória, para não mencionar as manifestações sociais em Espanha, a Guerra do Iraque, o Tratado dos Direitos Humanos ou a censura na China, apresentam-se visões muito pessoais e poéticas de uma sociedade que começa a entender que este não é o mundo com o qual os pais sonharam.

COLOGNE OFF - International Video Art Festival Founded in 2006 and unique in its kind, CologneOFF is based on the unconventional concept to be a festival without a static festival location but built on global networking instead, based on a growing collection of art videos to be expanded each year by realising a new festival edition, instead of organising each year again an event just for 3 days, based on a dual system of equal virtual and physical components, focussing on new and experimental artistic expressions, instead of following already known paths. In 2012, CologneOFF is realising its 8th festival edition, as well as it is expanding its festival context about two special formats: “one minute videos” and “art & animation”. Cologne International Videoart Festival is run by artvideoKOE-LN - the curatorial initiative “art & moving images”.

COLOGNE OFF - Festival Internacional de Video ArteFundado em 2006 e único no seu género, Colog-neOFF é um festival sem um local estático, cons-truído em rede, com base numa crescente colec-ção de vídeo arte, expandida a cada ano através da realização de uma nova edição. Em vez de se centrar anualmente num evento de apenas 3 dias, baseia-se num sistema duplo de componentes físicas e virtuais, em novas expressões artísticas, seguindo caminhos por explorar. Tudo isto dá ao seu fundador e director Agrícola de Cologne a liberdade para incentivar os artistas a criar “arte total” usan-do o meio multi-facetado do vídeo digital.
