Background In 2014, the Greater Northern Australia Regional TrainingNetwork (GNARTN) in partnership with the NationalAboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health WorkerAssociation (NATSIHWA) and a range of government andnon‐government organizations across Northern Australia,worked collectively to develop a range of tools and resourcesto support Continuing Professional Development (CPD) ofAboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Workers andPractitioners

NATSIHWA NATSIHWA supports and represents Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Workers (ATSIHW). This includes Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioners as one of the important speciality streams of Health Workers. NATSIHWA is a not‐for‐profit organisation which works with health, education and our communities to improve the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

The tools and resources were reviewed by expert technical advisors, Health Workers and Practitioners and educational providers

32 training packages were distributed via EOI and 8 sites agreed to pilot and evaluate the tools including AMSs and Health Departments

Formal review undertaken by NATSIHWA, Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council

Project Steering Group provided governance and monitoring of the pilot and review process

Emerging Opportunities   NATSIHWA is currently developing the CPD program for 

release in July 2015 as the custodians of the resource Provide courses to be made available to ATSIHW 

workforce to assist with CPD point collection as required by APRAH

Program covers both clinical and AHPRA requirements:First Aid, CPR, wound management, phlebotomy skill set, clinical education, webinars, confidentiality, mentoring and competency based assessment tools

How to Access the CPD Program The Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander Health Worker  and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner need to be a full member of NATSIHWA  Facilitators are encouraged to use these resources as a guide and to make changes to the resources and workshop activities and format to meet local needs
