Gala Day Tomorrow is the big day and the weather is looking fantastic for our water slide and water balloon activities. There will be lots of activities, things to buy and yummy food to eat. Please come along and support this wonderful event. A flyer has been sent home earlier this week showing all the great things on offer.

Parent Requests for 2017 Student Placements Parents are welcome to submit written inputs with respect to class placements. The submissions must be based on educational reasons, addressed to “The Principal” and marked “Confidential”. (All written parent submissions will be given consideration but will not automatically be accommodated.) Written submissions must be sent to the Principal by Friday 18th November.

If your student is not returning in 2017 please advise the school ASAP.

Current class teachers will confer with next year’s class teachers to form educationally balanced classes taking into consideration a variety of criteria. Some of these criteria include:

• Classes are to be balanced (whether these are split or straight) with respect to

academic performance, social development, behaviour and gender.

• Previous class placements.

• School Psychologist recommendations.

• Special needs such as twins and family situation.

• Written parent submissions regarding a student’s educational needs.

Car Park Lines As many of you would be aware the Shire has recently made some changes to the parking in the car park across the road. The P&C, School Board and school have pressed hard for these changes to occur to help reduce the likelihood of accidents. I would like to thank the P&C for their practical and financial support in helping to make this change.

Mathsademic Competition Congratulations to our Mathsademic teams who all performed very well at the competition held last Thursday at Manjimup PS. Both our Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 teams came fourth and showed great team work throughout the event.

Assembly Congratulations to Mrs Hercock and Room 6 for their wonderful assembly last Friday. Our next assembly will be held by room 9 on 18th November

“SCREEN TIME” – Parents Workshop Have you ever wondered..

• If your child spends too much time looking at a screen?

• Exactly how much time is too much?

• At what age should children start using screens daily?

• What exactly is ‘screen time’?

• Is it physically harming them in any way? In this digital world where it seems there is no escaping the screen overload, this parent workshop aims to cover the above points, and many others, as we try to navigate, protect and assist our children with their device usage. Heidi Tempra (B.A Pri, B.A Edu, M.Ed SLN, M. Ed ECE) will present an informative and interactive workshop for parents that will be practical, useful and applicable immediately in home situations. MY TRIP TO

MELBOURNE FOR THE NAILA AWARDS

For an Indonesian project, some students and I entered into a national Indonesian speaking contest called NAILA (National Australian Indonesian Language Awards). In late September I found out

that I had won it, which meant that I got to fly over to Melbourne to meet the judges, present my speech and receive my award.

After a flight of three hours, my sister Ashli and I arrived in Melbourne and caught our first ever double decker bus! After the joy of that, we found out that Melbourne’s transportation wasn’t as easy as we thought it was…

After hopping off one SkyBus, we were surrounded by an ocean of others SkyBuses going to other

destinations. Our destination was Swanston Street Rydges Hotel. After an hour of waiting for our SkyBus, we finally reached Rydges.

We went to a Chinese restaurant for dinner, with Ashli’s cousin. We ordered dumplings and they were delicious! After dinner we settled in to our room and had a good night’s sleep. Early in the morning, we awoke and went down to the breakfast buffet. I ordered peaches, mango slice and watermelon in a bowl. Yum! Finishing breakfast, Ashli and I decided to walk to the Queen Victoria Markets. That was a great experience. There were a lot of people gathering around different stalls. These stalls had everything; vegies, fruit, hotdogs, clothes and your average nickie-nackie-noos. You name it, they had it.

After an hour or so, we headed up to Melbourne Aquarium, SeaLife. We had a blast! We met Freckles and Jumpy the stingrays and Chainsaw-Face Charlie the swordfish like fish. They had marine animals from reef sharks, right down to mini crustaceans. After exploring SeaLife, we went back to Rydges to get ready for the presentation.

We met the NAILA team and they were lovely. After bonding with the others, we all split up into taxis and travelled to a big building where we were going to present our speeches. Everyone presented well. I had a great time saying my speech and singing my song. There were 118 guests. Not long after I met the guests around me. I also met the Indonesian ambassador. They were all so happy to see the young generation learning Indonesian. After a long night, we went back to Rydges and bedded down for the night.

Another early morning started off with meeting up with the NAILA team. We set out to explore more of Melbourne. We started off with Melbourne University. That was great. Then we went to a Batik lesson. Batik was an awesome experience. My fingernails are still blue from the dye we used. In Batik, we had to make a design with wax, dye the fabric until it was blue, then boil off the wax. Wherever you put the wax, the dye won’t touch. After the lesson, some off the NAILA team went off to get cake, but my sister, the Junior Awardee, and her dad and I decided to go rock climbing! After that, we had to literally run back to Rydges and get ready for dinner with the NAILA founder. It went well, everyone enjoyed their meal. I ordered steak and it was so big that I was full at the halfway mark! After that, we went back to the hotel and went to sleep.

It was our last day in Melbourne, so we decided to make the most of it. We went to the Melbourne Gaol where Ned Kelly was hanged (which I found so cool!) After that, we were flying safely back to our home state, W.A. Precious Lundberg – Head Girl

The Safety House Contact Number Cards are very

similar in size to a standard credit card, made out of

hard plastic and printed with the child’s basic contact

information details.

For personal safety reasons there is no address or

family surname on the card, just sufficient information

that will help the Safety House person or trusted adult

contact the right person and school as quickly as

possible if the child is in need of help.

The Contact Number Card is available exclusively from

Safety House WA Inc. for any family to order. The card

can then be kept safely in the child’s school bag just in

case they ever need to give a contact number when

they are hurt or upset.

HOW TO ORDER A SAFETY HOUSE WA CONTACT

A special limited time deal has been done between the

Manjimup District Safety House group, local Primary

Schools and Safety House WA Inc. to make the Safety

House WA Contact Number Card available to Parents

and families free of charge.

To order your Contact Number Card please complete

the form at your local Primary School Office with details

of the child’s first name and a MAXIMUM of 2 contact

names and numbers.

There is no limit to the number of children for whom

you may order free contact number cards.

This offer will be available during the month of

November 2016 and once all the orders are received

the printed cards will be delivered to the Manjimup

District Safety House group and they can be picked up.
