Species descriptionCell truncate to conical, 40 (20-55) µm long and 40(20-50) µm wide; posterior end pointed, anteriorend forms a dome shape (Fig 1,2,6); the largeextrusomes are distinct in protargol stained cells, theycan be numerous to absent and insert anterior to thegirdle and extend posteriorly and internally (Fig 1,6-8).

Shallow oral cavity; APZ distinctly separated fromVPZ; paroral kinety in the upper right surface of oralgroove - not visible in Lugol’s fixed cells (Fig 1).

Girdle kinety supraequatorial, completely surroundingthe cell, with very short cilia (Fig 1, 7,8).

One spherical to oval macronucleus, 9 (8-15) µmin diameter, centrally located (Fig 1,4,6-8).

Similar speciesStrombidium reticulatum (anterior protuberance), S.compressum (less APks, APZ and VPZ not so clearlyseparated, small trichites), S. conicoides (more APks)S. basiomorphum (no distinct extrusomes, long ventralkinety present).
