Research LibraryStrong's Concordance Help

The Strongs Tab contains four forms based on the James Strong's Exhaustive Concordance of 1890:

Strong's Exhaustive Concordance serves as a primary cross-reference between the Hebrew and Greek languages of the King James Version and its English translation. The Concordance is not intended to be used as a professional translation, but can be ahelpful analytical tool.

Each Strong's number has an associated dictionary entry that contains the original Greek word, the transliterated word, the phonetic pronunciation, and the definition.

Strong's numbers of related or root words are included as hyperlinks within the definition.

The following Greek numbers are unassigned: 2717 and 3203-3302.

Forms

The Four Forms on the Strongs Tab are, from top to bottom:

1) Lexicon Form2) Interlinear Form3) Definition Form4) Translation Form

The Definition and Translation Forms are identical in the overall data they contain, but differ in operational characteristics. The Definition Form is linked (or "tied") to the Interlinear Form. The Translation Form is linked to the Definition Form and to itself. The Translation Form also provides access to a lookup table containing a searchable list of all Strong's numbers and definitions.

The Definition and Translation forms each contain five (5) user-defined Web Buttons(StrN1-StrN5) with the capability to be linked directly to Strong's numbers on analytical websites. Web Button Setup is explained in System Setup.

Lexicon Form

The top form, called the Lexicon Form, contains the Hebrew and Greek text of the King James Version based on the Masoretic Hebrew and Stephanus 1550 Greek lexicons. The Lexicon Form is linked directly to the King James Active Verse for quick reference.

Below are the lexicons for Isaiah 61:1 and Revelation 1:1. Note the Hebrew languagereads from right-to-left:

Double-click the Lexicon Form to display the lexicons in a Field Viewer. Interlinear referencing is appended to the lexicons (shown) when available. The following example is from Esther 8:9:

Interlinear Form

The Interlinear Form is the heart of the Strong's Concordance System. It contains side-by-side King James Version text and Strong's numbers for the 66 Books of the Holy Bible. The Transliterations and Grammar are provided for the New Testament Greek.

Click any Strong's number in the Interlinear Window (the numbers between the curly brackets) and the definition will display in the Definition Window below. Double-clicking the number will copy it into the Search Box at the bottom right of the form.

Definition Form

In the following example, Strong's #1722 (adjacent to the word "shortly") was clickedin the Interlinear Window for Revelation 1:1 to display the 1722 definition in the Definition Window below:

The Strong Number, Lexicon, Transliteration, Phonetic spelling, and five Web Buttons are located across the top of the Definition and Translation forms (shown below). There are an additional seven Web Buttons below the Translation Form.

The Translation Form also has a Binocular Button, located to the immediate right of the Strong's Number, that can be clicked to list all Strong's numbers and definitions ina lookup table. This will be explained in more detail later in this help file.

Translation Form

The two Strong numbers embedded in the above definition, #1519 and #1537, can be individually analyzed in the Translation Form by clicking them. The definition and for number 1519 is shown above, and 1537 below:

Field View Analysis

These three definitions are large and can be better analysed in the Field Viewers. In this example, double-click inside the Definition or Translation windows for each of the three numbers to open them in Field Viewers. Then resize and stack the viewers to the left of the application as follows:

The Field View forms can remain open as long as needed for analysis, or until the Research Library is closed. At that time any open Field View forms will be automatically closed.

Strong's Number Lookup Table

The Translation Form has an additional object not found on the Definition Form. To the immediate right of the Strong's Number is a Search Button (binocular image) which when clicked will display a Strong's Number Lookup Table, partially shown below:

The form opens to the current Strong's number of the Translation Form which in this example is #1537. Click any of the raised Labels at the top (all except the Definition label) to sort the table by that column. Double-click inside the Definition field (excepton a Strong's Number) to open the Field Viewer. Click a Strong's Number in the Definition, either in this form or in the Field Viewer, to open the Strong's Definition Form:

Click the referenced Strong's Numbers to append those definitions to the form (calledSub-Referencing). The form scrolls to accommodate virtually any number of Sub-References.

The Web Buttons in the upper right of the Translation and Definition forms were designed to allow quick access to websites offering analytical tools for evaluating Strong's numbers. Those ten buttons are unique in that they can be "linked" directly to Strong's numbers on the Web. The seven Web Buttons at the lower left can linked to the Active Book, Chapter and/or Verse.

Some of the more popular biblical websites that currently offer Greek/Hebrew lexicon analysis include:

Bible Hub: http://biblehub.comStudy Light: http://www.studylight.orgStudy Bible: http://studybible.infoBible Study Tools: http://www.biblestudytools.comBlue Letter Bible: https://www.blueletterbible.org

These are well-designed websites that offer a wealth of bible research information and tools.

The seven Web Buttons at the lower left can be linked to those and other websites. Web Buttons are explained in more detail in Setup.
