The Al Shahania name is synonymous with

excellence in Arabian racing and breeding,

as evidenced by honors bestowed on two of Al

Shahania’s homebreds last year. Mkeefa (Amer x

Nisaee by Dormane) was named IFAHR Older

Horse of the Year for 2012 after her wins in the

2012 Qatar World Cup at Longchamp, the Shadwell

Farm Hatta International Stakes at Newbury, and

The President of the UAE Cup at Newmarket.

The 2008 stallion Rathowan (Amer x Arc de Ciel

by Djendel) was ranked second among the leading

older horses of the year. He placed second in the

Qatar World Cup behind Mkeefa and won the 2012

NBC International Stakes at Newbury. He recently

placed second in the 2013 President of the UAE

Cup at Newmarket.

Other recent highlights for the Al Shahania race team

include victory in one of the most prestigious Arabian

races in the Middle East — the 2012 Emir’s Sword

with Aziz (Amer x Aziza d’Aroco by Dormane). Their

2013 winners include: Areej (Amer x Akie Croix

Noire by Tidjani), winner of the Group 1 Arabian

Horse Organization Hawthorn Hill International

Arabian Stakes; Assy (Amer x Margouia by Tidjani),

winner of the 2013 Emirs Trophy in Qatar; and Aden

(Burning Sand x Mayada by Amer), winner of the

Group 2 Emirates Equestrian Federation Stakes in her

stakes debut.

But perhaps one of the sweetest wins this year

was that of Chaddad (Mared Al Sahra x Nisaee by

Dormane), who claimed the Group 1 Qatar Total

Arabian Trophy des Poulains in his second start,

this one at St. Cloud, Paris on October 4. The Al

Shahania team takes special pride in the fact that not

only is Chaddad a homebred, but he is also the first

winner sired by the Al-Shahaina-bred stallion Mared

Al Sahra (Amer x Massamarie by Tidjani).

With an Arabian broodmare band built for racing and

widely considered to be one of — if not the best — in

the world, Al Shahania’s place at the top echelons of

the sport seems assured for years to come.
