That is a sure sign that our community supports the work we are doing here – a fact confirmed by the draft report of the School Review which also took place last week. This review takes place across each school every four years, and the findings allow schools to identify their progress against identified benchmarks from the previous review, and also to plan future improvements for the next four years. Two things were clear to the reviewers and they commended the school on them. Of course there are things we can do better, and I will share them with you when we get the full report in a couple of weeks. But in the words of the Assistant Regional Director who is my boss, “What you [we] have here is brilliant. With a little bit of hard work it will become spectacular.” And that’s not a bad goal to have for the next four years. Trauma in Youth’ or P.A.R.T.Y program at the Royal Brisbaneand Women’s Hospital. The hands on approach to informingyoung people about trauma related accidents was not onlyinformative but entertaining with dramatic re-enactments of reallife situations. Hospital staff simulated Alcohol related accidenttraumas in the ED while students watched with how the unitdeals with injured or sick patients. As well as with theEmergency Department students visited the Intensive CareUnit, Physiotherapy/ Occupational Therapy and SpeechPathology Departments hearing from highly trained medicalstaff finding time in between their busy work schedule. Knowingthat youth are over represented in alcohol and risk takingtrauma accidents, the take home message was ‘enjoy yourselfbut please make smart choices!’.

HAIR & BEAUTY FAMILIESWelcome to a new year! We have had agreat start to the Hair and Beauty classeswelcoming a few new faces to our family.Mrs Michelle Ford is our Hairdressingteacher, Ms Jade Huxham is our Makeupand Beauty teacher, Ms Deborah Whyattteaches Nail Technology and this year we also have Ms KateMason who will be our new Beauty teacher. So no excuses for them not knowing how to give you abeautiful hand or foot massage! They will also be learning howto ‘pick up’ acrylic and apply it to an egg. Yes, that is correctan egg. An egg has the same curvature of a finger nail. If yourstudent, when filing their egg breaks it (yes they are raw), theyhave either squeezed the clients hand (egg) to hard or appliedto much pressure when filing which means in nail world thatthey have cut the clients finger. This is always a fun week toteach.

Year 12 Nail students will be learning how to use Hard Gelsystems this includes the latest gel system from Nail Harmony,Polygel. They will be using these skills to create some beautifulnail art which will help them towards their Showcasemasterpiece. Students will know soon what they will be doing. Please be patient.
