The Board of Education Attendance Policy and Late Arrival/Early Departure Procedures were developed to help our school make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for No Child Left Behind (NCLB). Thank you for understanding the impor-tance of getting your child to school on time and leaving them for the entire school day. Attendance is taken in the classrooms at 8:10 a.m. and instruction begins at 8:15 a.m. each morning. ARRIVAL TIME: Students may arrive at school between 7:40 and 8:10. Students should not be left at school before 7:40 a.m., as limited supervision is provided prior to that time. Parents must bring students into the school and sign them in if they arrive any time after 8:10. Students arriving after 8:10 a.m. will be marked tardy. TARDIES & EARLY DEPARTURE Students with more than 2 unexcused tardies or unexcused early departures within a nine week period will receive a zero for class participation for the first or last subject of the day for each and every violation over two during a nine week pe-riod. Any work that is missed will be made up in recess, P.E., or music. The principal will review special circumstances. Doctor visits or other appointments should be scheduled outside of school hours whenever pos-sible. However, if a student does need to be tardy or leave early, separate excuse notes must be written by the parent or doctor and will be ac-cepted the same day or no later than the follow-ing school day. Students who accumulate more than 8 tardies or early departures during the school year will not be eligible for the Perfect Attendance Award. ATTENDANCE: The complete attendance policy is in the Effingham County Student and Parent Handbook. The following is a brief synopsis: Students who have more than 7 unexcused absences from school shall not be promoted. Students who have more than 14 total absences from school shall not be promoted. Students who are absent from school should bring a written excuse within three days or the absence will be considered unexcused. Students who expect to be absent from school for more than 10 consecu-tive days for medical reasons should contact our counselor to make application for the Hospital/Homebound Program.
BREAKFAST: Breakfast is served from 7:45-7:55. If your child eats breakfast at school, they must arrive in time to report first to class, then to the lunchroom by 7:55 a.m. DEPARTURE TIMES & EARLY PICK UP: The school day ends at 3:10 p.m. and car rider pick up begins at that time. All students should be picked up by 3:20. Car rider numbers will be called as you approach; please make sure your child knows the number so that we may serve you in a timely manner. Please drive carefully. Students that are signed out at 3:10 will be dis-missed through the art room entrance. Please have your car rider number with you when going to out-side entrance of the art room. Students must remain in school until 11:55 a.m. in order to be counted present for the day. A parent, guardian or emergency contact person must sign a student out in the front office. If a custodial parent is not the individual signing the student out, permis-sion must be verified by phone. The custodial par-ent should send a note on the day of the pick up giving permission for the individual to sign the stu-dent out. Please include a phone number where you can be reached during the day. Picture identi-fication may be required for verification. If you will not be near a phone and wish to call about someone picking up your child or a transpor-tation change, you must call the school before 2:00. A student will not be allowed to leave school with anyone except the custodial parent, legal guardian, or individuals designated as emergency contacts on the Student Information Verification Report, unless the school has been notified as outlined above. Your child’s safety is our chief concern.
