student startup and innovation policy (ssip) A most progressive startup ecosystem in the world have

witnessed an active role of local academia and students, thekey missing link is the holistic innovation pre-startup andinnovation ecosystem development across academia andallied stakeholder, which this policy aims to fill.

The Student Startup & Innovation Policy (SSIP) aims atensuring that the students across all educational institute ofgujarat get a conductive environment to solve problems andcreate ideas and opportunities.

The policy addresses the need of creating a strong pipeline ofinnovations out of research and allied efforts acrossinstitutes, helping students convert ideas into opportunities,that later can be supported as startups through variousexisting institutional mechanisms.

Under the Student Startup and Innovation Policy,funding support has been provided for activitiessuch as, setting up innovation council/cell,developing pre-incubation process, sensitization ofstudents for innovation and start-ups,award/recognition for students, prototypedevelopment support, patent filing, mentoring,industry interactions etc.

cont… The Institute Level SSIP Committee shall decide on the project to

be taken up for support. Not more than Rs 2 lakh should besanctioned for each project . However, if the nature of the projectso demands, a higher amount can be recommended by theinstitution for decision to the State level Committee.

The total sanctioned amount for all projects in a year should notexceed Rs 20 lakh.

The Innovator team shall submit a monthly report to thecommittee through the mentor/team leader and also update thesame on the State SSIP MIS Portal and support should becontinued only if satisfactory progress is being made.

No amount should be sanctioned for a project, until theInnovator/Team has already worked on the project for at leastthree months.

IPR Expenditure Guideline Each Institute should have an IPR cell/ centre to facilitate IPR related

activities. IPR cell/ centre to process the information and shall get internal

approvals of the Institute Level SSIP Committee of the Institute The Innovator may be provided help of a consultant to apply for IPR.

Only DIPP recognized consultants can be assigned IPR relatedconsultancy work at DIPP approved rates.

IPR cell/ centre has to follow up with the status of the applications. In case of any queries/ objections are raised against the application,

the IPR cell/ centre in consultation with the innovator/ creator/applicant has to facilitate suitable response.

Once the registration certificate is obtained, the IPR cell/ centre hasto inform about the same to the applicant/ innovator/ creator.

The IPR cell/ centre has to facilitate the applicant/ innovator/ creatorin promoting the product for commercialization.

Guideline for mentoring support

Mentor:-

Any person who is having substantial exposure ofResearch & Development/ Innovation/Entrepreneurship/ Product Design/ Domain Expertise inindustry or academia can be considered 'Mentor'.

After two sessions if project teammember/s feel it is desirable to continue thementoring services from theagency/person, then it can be extended asper guidelines provide in Item 2 of theTable-2 after approval from the InstituteLevel Committee.

Interventions taken to achieve SSIP Objectives.

SSIP sensitization awareness program for the faculties of institute was organized andconducted by SSIP coordinator on 06/01/2018. Total 48 faculty members have participatedand sensitized in the program.

Awareness programs have been conducted by in the institute and other instituteto sensitize the students regarding Innovation and Student startup andInnovation Policy. Total 1540 students of the institute were sensitized during theawareness program.

Program on “Innovations for Engineers” was conducted in institute by theindustrial expert Mr. Keyur Patel from the Macson product, Sachin, Surat on25-01-2018. Total 161 students have been participated in the program.
