Brief Description: For this assignment, I researched a topic and will present what I have researched. Then I will teach what I have learned to my classmates.

BACKGROUNDA relationship between a student and instructor should strictly be professional in the eyes of the public across the nation.

When deeper lying relations between the two make it to public view the reputation of both individuals can be badly damaged, even if the story isn’t all that people expect. It is a risk to take between the two for each of their future. Employment wise and perception wise.

The relationship can effect both the teacher and student’s attitude and overall performance in the classroom.

The connections can be a risks in multiple forms…

• When it comes to connections between students and teachers online, for example, Facebook, info that wouldn’t be shared in the classroom can be leaked to many people not even involved in the relation.

• Students can find out personal details and information about their instructor that may compromise their employment as well as school reputation.

• What if this info reached the parents? The trust between the parent and the teacher would potentially be lost depending on the background of that teacher’s personal life. “Is she fit to teach a classroom?” “She doesn’t seem like the appropriate person to be teaching.”

• Online “friendships” with students are also how many sexual relationships can begin.

OUTSIDE RELATIONSHI

PS• Being spotted walking down the street together by a fellow classmate or a Polaroid being shared of the two, for example, can effect how the whole class thinks if the information is spread. Whether the student is of age and definitely if underage.

• The relation between the teacher and student can affect the professional relationship before classmates find out and even more once the info reaches other peers.

• Not to mention the attention drawn away from class assignments ultimately disrupting the flow of the classroom and every other students’ success.

PRO’S Though the internet, social media websites, and outside connecting can be a teacher and student’s biggest enemy and downfall, many of both say that the connection with each other can be a benefit outside the classroom.

Many teachers like it for the simple fact of posting assignments or reminders to their students.

Maybe the internet is a more comfortable way for some students to ask questions.

CON’S For years we have heard about relations between teachers and student’s that have been either inappropriate and sexual or strictly “Facebook Friends” that in tern have with out a doubt tarnished both individuals careers, reputations, and lives.

Modern technology is a factor considering the ability to leak information easily. A simple picture of a teacher having a nice night on the town can cost them their good name and even their job.

The student’s ability to perform well and provide 100% attention in the class is compromised, as well as every other student in class because of gossip and info from online social groups or outside sources surrounding both student and instructor or just the instructor.
