Tortoise is mad. “I can beat you!” he says again, “Let’s race!” Hare laughs again. “You are crazy, Tortoise! You crawl so slowly!” he says. But fi nally

Hare agrees to the race.

Tortoise doesn’t like to be teased. One day he says to Hare, “I can beat you in a race!” Hare laughs and laughs! “Nobody

can beat me. I run so fast!” he says.

It’s the day of the race! Many animals arrive to watch. Tortoise and Hare are waiting at the starting line. Owl blows
