RESIDENCES Lakefield College School’s small residences and family atmosphere make it unique among traditional boarding schools. Students share double rooms which they decorate as they would at home. Bed linens are provided but students may bring their own comforter/duvet. Students have their own bed, desk and closet. In total, there are 12 Boarding Houses with an average of 20 students per residence + 2 Day Houses for day students. Faculty members serving as Heads of House live in residences providing careful supervision, academic support and individual attention. In addition, each house staffs an Assistant Head of House who is a recent university graduate, working full-time with students in residential and co-curricular activities. Weekly laundry is included

ACADEMIC CURRICULUM Lakefield College School prepares the student for university. The faculty engage students in academic activities which enable them to develop disciplined habits of study, critical thinking skills, and a talent for co-operative problem solving. In addition, students are given significant opportunities to use modern technology as a tool to assist them in their learning.

In order to ensure intellectual breadth, all students are required to follow core curriculum that includes extended studies in each of six academic areas: English Language and Literature, Mathematics, Science and Technology, History and Social Science, Modern Languages including Spanish and French, and the Arts.

AP courses are available in Maths, Sciences, English, History and Social Science, and Modern Languages.

COMPUTERS / LAPTOPS laptop: mandatory Lakefield College School has put technology at the centre of its curriculum and has been considered a leader at incorporating technology in the classroom. The Lakefield campus operates both a wired and wireless internet system to ensure students have access to email, course material, and the World Wide Web where ever they are on campus. All students from Grade 9 to 12 are required to participate in our laptop and technology program which includes a laptop computer, all necessary software, full access to the school’s network plus complete technical support. Students are not permitted to access the school’s network with a computer that is not supplied by the school.

The Online Learning Centre Lakefield College School’s Online Learning Centre allows students, and their parents, to keep up-to-date on all course work. Students and their parents can access class notes, and view upcoming assignments and tests. A clear record of the grades the student has received on tests and assignments is always available and offers student and parents immediate access to school information. All personal information is protected by digital security and requires a private password.

ESL Lakefield College School does not provide an ESL Programme. Students applying to this school must possess an advanced level of English proficiency to fully participate in the academic curriculum. Tutors for minor ESL support may be available upon request.

SPORTS AND CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES participation: mandatory Participation in sports and extra-curricular activities is a mandatory component of the academic life. Each term students are required to choose a physical activity and many choose either competitive sports or a recreational programme. Lakefield’s location and facilities lend themselves to an extensive program of life sports. The property includes over 3899 feet/600 metres of shoreline on Lake Katchewanooka. In the fall and spring, the lake is dotted with sailboats, sailboards and canoes. In the winter, students and staff enjoy a variety of team and recreational activities on a permanent outdoor ice rink equipped with modern refrigeration technology; and for the ski enthusiasts, the school maintains over five km of groomed cross-country ski trails on the campus. Lakefield’s four tennis courts are also kept busy fall and spring. Excellent facilities for downhill skiing, softball and kayaking are just a short drive away.
