Ceramics classes are held workshop style, so if you have any ideas you have been thinking over, now would be the time to express them in clay. We will utilize our facility to the max, from the pottery wheel to hand-building to extruding, and even slab rolling to create reliefs. Fees cover the cost of your first bag of clay. It is important to attend the first class, where safety procedures and a material list will be discussed.

How do I add depth to my drawings? How do I show distance in a landscape? Why do all my drawings look flat? Use of perspective drawing techniques is a valuable tool for creating a sense of depth on two-dimensional surfaces. Whether you are new to perspective drawing or just drawing in general you are welcome to participate in this basic course. At the conclusion of our class, you will have an understanding of how one-point and two-point perspective are used to draw buildings, interior rooms and landscapes.

This class is for both beginners and continuing artists who want to paint with oils. We will work with traditional oils with quick drying alkyd mediums. Students will be exposed to both traditional & contemporary approaches to this medium. Students will receive continual instructor demos and individual guidance. Expect to work

on canvases and/ or panels. Emphasis in this class is on developing strong value structure and color sense along with suggestions for a vari-ety of paint applications. Please bring supplies to first class. A materials list is available online.

Achieving effective color and light doesn’t have to be difficult. Oil/acrylic/watercolor painters, all levels welcome. We will begin with the basics and discuss materials and equipment that make painting easier and fun. Each class will feature still life setups and landscape photos to work from. Landscape demonstration/discussion for the first half of the workshop, and still life during the second half. However, participants are welcome to work from their own photos/set-ups. We’ll begin with landscape theory: using values and how color changes with distance. We’ll move on to using light and shade to create convincing volume, how transparency creates depth, and using grays to make visual space in the still life. Should that color be warm or cold? Thick or thin? Mixed with white or pure? Come prepared to paint on the first class. Critique last class. Odorless thinner only please. See www.tarzier.com for examples of instructor work.

Whether you want to be the next Sargent, Hockney or Neel there are many ways to enter into the art of the Portrait. One good way is to begin with yourself! That is who all the greats practiced on until they got that big commis-sion! Come prepared to work from your favorite photo of yourself or one other person to start. We’ll talk about the essentials: Composi-tion, Expression, Light, Mood, etc...Beginners welcome, but some painting experience is helpful. Acrylics are best to begin with. A materials list is supplied on the first class.
