Students profit from a personal learning environment (approximately 25 to 40 students per class) and individual support. As a private university, LUNEX University can guide its students more individually through their studies than would be the case at many state universities. As courses are offered in blocks, moving in order to undertake studies is not necessarily required.

Degree programs at LUNEX University were developed in accordance with criteria outlined in the Bologna Process and comply with various laws governing who can be licensed to practice certain professions in Europe. This is crucial for students who later wish to apply to become licensed practitioners in the European Community in their fields. Dual careers

The lack of a way to combine sports with studying or full-time work is a common reason why many athletes give up their athletic careers. By flexibly organizing their studies, athletes can pursue their athletic careers to the fullest while working towards earning a federally- recognized degree at LUNEX University. Most traineeships and apprenticeships are only recognized at the national level. Consequently, students who have completed these programs often face difficulty when seeking employment abroad. The Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs offered at LUNEX University have the advantage of being recognized Europe-wide. Registration and program starting dates

Degree programs at LUNEX University begin in the summer (April) and winter (October) semesters. Attendance at a special applicant day event (offered on several dates throughout the year) is required for admission in the following semester.

Tuition fees

LUNEX University is a federally recognized private university. The independence and neutrality of its educational program and research pursuits allow LUNEX University to orient its course offerings solely in response to qualitative and economic factors and requirements.

As a result of this unique situation, the University’s Bachelor’s and Master’s programs are financed via monthly tuition fees and a one-time intake fee of 550 EUR upon enrolling for a degree program.

Financing your studies

Children of Luxembourgian citizens, residents of the country of Luxembourg, and cross-border commuters (and their children) can apply for financial aid independent of income, in accordance with Luxembourgian law.

Financial aid in Luxembourg is provided irrespective of the income of students’ parents. The maximum sum available per academic year is 18,700 EUR, independent of the student’s age. This student grant is divided into two sums, distributed to students once each semester.

Bachelor’s studies at LUNEX University last six semesters. Between block course phases, students deepen their knowledge via self-study. In these periods, students can always contact their advisors and instructors for support.

Depending on the degree program they are enrolled in, students complete various practical training units in which they convert theory to hands-on practice. This serves as a great opportunity to gain important practical experience as well as a first look at future career fields. Here, students have the opportunity to determine their preferences and strengths early on in their studies and further develop and refine these throughout the program.

Master’s degree programs at LUNEX University last two or four semesters and are aimed at all candidates interested in deepening their knowledge in their respective fields at an academic level. Depending on the degree program, students complete practical training units that develop their hands-on skills. Upon completion of the Master’s, continuing on with doctoral studies at LUNEX University or another university is possible.

International Sports Management (B.A.)

Graduates of the International Sports Management degree program are the sports professionals who work “in the background.” Their extensive knowledge of economics can also be successfully used in careers other than sport.

Active athletes use the degree program in order to qualify for positions in organization and management in sports departments and institutions. Employees of sports clubs and confederations find it helpful in expanding their areas of influence and practice, e.g. in the areas of sponsorship and marketing.

International Sports Law (LL.M.)

Graduates of the Master’s in International Sports Law degree program are well-versed in the legal problems and questions that athletes, teams, organizations, and companies face in the modern sports environment. Graduates can take on leading positions in management and non-profit organizations and are also in a position to consult independently.

Attorneys with an affinity for sports have the opportunity to enter the field of arbitration with their Master’s qualification. Athletes can prepare themselves for careers as independent advisors and consultants.

The program in International Sports Management (B.A.) provides students with a substantial foundation in business management and economics that prepares them for successful careers in sports business. The degree

program is aimed towards those who are interested in sports and the sports industry. Students who are already involved in organized sports or in sports-related

businesses and companies have the opportunity to gain qualifications to meet future challenges. As a result of the increasing professionalization of sports clubs, confederations, and leagues, and the growing market for sporting events, sports-related products, and recreational activities, the demand for specialists with management knowledge is high. Many new sub-fields have developed as a result of this change, including the media world revolving around sports, sports law, licensing and branding, and the ever-increasing domain of organising sporting events.

The bachelor‘s degree in International Sports Management (B.A.) contains practical course content in the fields of economics, management and sports. In addition to an introduction to academic research, the course develops students‘ knowledge of corporate governance, finance, marketing, media and communications, and sports law. Practical internships reinforce the theoretical knowledge and prepare students for the research work involved in their bachelor‘s thesis.

INTERNATIONAL SPORTS LAW (LL.M.)The degree program provides applied, specialized knowledge, which addresses legal issues that are of ever-increasing importance in a growing sports market.

The program is geared towards those engaged with legal questions in the field of sports. This target group includes employees and directors who work in sports organizations and companies, and anyone who works with these institutions. Athletes, coaches, and journalists can gain the necessary know-how for effective communication in the sports world. Attorneys can qualify for positions in arbitration upon successfully completing the program.



There is a need for applied expertise in legal contexts in the sports industry for employees and managers in clubs, confederations, sports organizations and businesses. This course is also aimed towards attorneys, journalists, and athletes – to enable them to recognize, describe and solve problems, and make good decisions concerning legal questions in the sports field in the future.

Clubs are founded and revitalized, sports organizations require leadership and support, sporting events are organized and marketed.

Athletic careers are managed and promoted, sponsorships are obtained and maintained, and problems unique to the sports world such as doping and game manipulation are presented and solved. Legal input is required in all of these scenarios, which are increasing in quantity as sports become more commercialized. As an employee, advisor, manager, or president of a sports organization or as any other representative in the sports business, you need not only to be acquainted with the particularities of the specific sport, but also to have extensive knowledge in various legal fields.

The degree program in International Sports Law (LL.M.) equips you with the extensive knowledge set necessary for the field. You will be able to begin applying

it even during the course of your studies. Current organizational, economic, and socially-relevant developments in sports are addressed in addition to establishing a foundation in sports law.

The degree program is aimed towards employees and managers in sports organizations and businesses who need to deal with legal questions pertaining to sports on a daily basis. In addition, the degree program offers athletes a career option for the period of their lives following the conclusion of their sports careers. As a graduate of the Master’s program in International Sports Law you have wide-ranging options for where and how you can pursue your career. You graduate having developed expertise in sports structures and legal contexts, and in addressing association rules, federal requirements, and the requirements for good governance and compliance. As a result, you are in a position to serve in managerial and leadership positions in sports organizations or to provide support to high-performance athletes.

In the area of sports event planning and design, you have the opportunity to apply the knowledge of sports law you have

acquired to the drafting of applications and event contracts. This knowledge set is also employed in the realization and safeguarding of sporting events through legally effective marketing contracts, sensible insurance provisions, and effective risk management. As media law is also introduced in the degree program, you have the option to work in television legal departments, at television stations, and in online media in addition to working in the marketing of sporting events.

As a result of the introduction of anti-doping management and measures against manipulation and corruption in sports, sports

lawyers have an even wider range of areas in which to apply their specialized knowledge. Attorneys who are qualified to exercise the functions of a judge can use the degree program to specialize in arbitration.

The program in International Sports Law (LL.M.) provides lawyers and sports managers with the relevant knowledge to address a wide range of sports law issues. The course includes discussions regarding legal issues surrounding the staging of sports events, such as sponsorship and marketing, risk management and media rights; doping in sports; violence and corruption in sport; and sports arbitration. The course culminates with the production of a Master‘s thesis in an area of specific interest to the student.

When is the deadline for application?

Applying to LUNEX University is possible at any time. Applications for the summer semester should be received by the University by the end of January and applications for the winter semester should be received by the end of August. Information days for prospective students (“applicant days”) for the summer semester take place at the beginning of February and for the winter semester in July and/or September.

When do the degree programs begin?

Degree programs at LUNEX University begin in the summer (April) and winter (October) semesters. Acceptance into the program requires attendance at a special applicant day event, which take place throughout the year. Current applicant day dates are advertised on the LUNEX University website: www.lunex-university.net.

Are degree programs at LUNEX University full-time programs?

In order to ensure that students receive the maximum amount of quality content in their areas of specialty, degree programs at LUNEX University have been designed as full-time programs. However, as courses are offered in block and small-group contexts, the degree programs can be easily combined with other duties or obligations, such as a career in high-performance sports or a full-time job.

How much is the tuition for degree programs at LUNEX University?

Tuition for Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs at LUNEX University is paid in monthly installments. Children of Luxembourgian citizens, residents of the country of Luxembourg, and cross-border commuters can apply for financial aid independent of income, in accordance with Luxembourgian law.

How practically-oriented are the degree programs?

In developing the sports-oriented degree programs, collaboration took place with international experts in sports (among others, the Olympic Committee in Luxembourg) and in research. In the therapy career tracks, there is constant exchange with relevant professional organizations and therapy institutions. Students complete internships in their fields of study, during which they can deepen the knowledge they have acquired in the classroom and apply it in the field.

Is moving necessary?

Block courses are regularly completed on campus. Following these courses phases, students deepen their knowledge through self-study. Therefore, moving is not necessarily required.

Is it possible to pursue my studies while pursuing a career in high-performance sports or working full-time?

The degree programs combine block courses with self-study (completed at home) and therefore can be successfully combined with high-performance sports (dual careers) and full-time work.

Is it possible to become licensed as a therapist after my studies?

The content of the therapy degree programs (physiotherapy/psychology) includes that which is legally required of such degree programs by various European laws. As a result, students can apply to become licensed Europe-wide after receiving their Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in their respective fields. Completion of both the Bachelor’s and Master’s programs fulfills the pre-requisites for further training to become a psychological psychotherapist.
