EMPOWERING EDUCATION ONLY IN SPRING 201830 ECTS

In spring 2018, UCC will host an international study programme, ‘Empowering Education’, which has been developed together with partners in Belgium, Spain, Austria and Denmark. The inter-national study programme aims to create a European learning community of teachers with a focus on intercultural commu-nication, professional collaboration, global citizenship and the digital classroom. The programme includes 3 weeks of teaching practice.

TEACHING LOWER SECONDARY SUBJECTS IN ENGLISH 10 ECTS Do you have a good ear for languages and a strong desire to teach non-language subjects in English in your upcoming teach-ing profession? The goal of this module is to assist the student in developing the competences that are necessary for conduct-ing English-medium instruction in the lower-secondary school system (grades 7-10 in Denmark). The module gives the student the opportunity to both supplement his/her existing or emerg-ing subject teaching competence with knowledge of foreign language pedagogy and further develop his/her own English language proficiency.

LANGUAGE DIDACTICS10 ECTS

Courses in language didactics in English, German and French are offered each semester as part of the UCC Teacher Education and are available to exchange students.

MUSICAL EXPRESSION IN TEACHING AND LEARNING 10 ECTS

The course focuses on developing the student’s music pedagogi-cal and didactic qualifications in relation to teaching. It includes several forms of musical expressions using the body, the voice, instruments, and other sound sources. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of the student’s own musical abilities to practise, create and understand music.

Central to this course are creative, aesthetic work forms that allow the student to reflect on the knowledge and skills gained through working with forms of expression.

THE NORDIC MODEL 10 ECTS

What is the Nordic Model? Discover the fundamental values of the Danish and Nordic school systems, including learning through art, visual culture and school architecture, and explore how space defines relationships.

This course will provide you with the necessary knowledge to reflect on the Nordic Model and to relate this approach to school systems in your own country.

This course includes school visits and 5 days of teaching practice at schools.

THE LEARNER’S ACADEMIC, SOCIAL AND PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT10 ECTS

How can we understand the academic, social and personal devel-opment of pupils from a psychological perspective? This course explores the interactions that influence children’s development and learning.

The course provides an insight into relevant psychological areas such as bullying, conflicts, communication, learning, motivation and gender.

The teaching method comprises dialogic lectures, group work, discussions as well as case analysis.

DIDACTICS OF DIALOGUE AND RECONCILIATION 10 ECTS Why do conflicts occur and how can we move towards conflict-transformation? Learn about conflict management from an international perspective and recognise the school’s potential to either escalate or resolve conflicts in society. Get experience in dialogue on religion, culture and values. Learn to formulate criti-cal questions and analyse school politics and practice in different contexts. Engage in discussions on diversity, tolerance, forgive-ness and reconciliation in school and society. Gain inspiration through visits from and field trips to civil society organisations.

This course has been developed in partnership with Notre Dame University, Lebanon.

VISUAL LITERACY 10 ECTS

What does it take to acquire visual literacy? In this course, we look at communication with images in a social and societal con-text. Students will plan, practise and evaluate educational visual art projects in class and with schoolchildren. They will work with the concept of visual culture and learn how to use images in all school disciplines.

INNOVATION LAB10 ECTS

What is innovation in teaching from a welfare perspective? Learn about how and why pupils should develop innovative competen-cies, how innovative competencies can be measured and how to guide innovative learning processes.

In this course, you will be asked to develop an innovative solution for an educational agent and to organise a six-hour ‘open lab’ conference for knowledge-sharing, in which solutions and test results will be presented and discussed.

MEDIA PLAY AND LEARNING IN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION20 + 10 ECTS

Today children have access to a myriad of digital media, and through kindergarten age they develop habits in their con-suming use of computers, videogames, tablets etc. Children should be supported to become competent creative users of the digital media and take part in the society as active citizens. In this course you will gain knowledge of mediated childhood and children’s culture. You will experiment and play with digital media and learn to support guided play with media in aesthetic learning.

PEDAGOGICAL WORK WITH CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE IN A EUROPEAN PERSPECTIVE 20 + 10 ECTS

What is Danish pedagogical work with children and young people? Learn about the Danish childcentered tradition for pedagogical work and the tradition of working with aesthetical and creative modes of expression. This course includes lectures, creative workshops, fieldwork and comparative pedagogical studies, all aimed at developing your intercultural understanding and competencies. The objective of this course is to gain profes-sional insights into the Danish pedagogical tradition in a Euorpean comparative perspective.

CREATIVE STORYTELLING IN EDUCATION20 + 10 ECTSThis course offers an opportunity to explore an experiential, aesthetical and theoretical learning approach to discover the values of creative storytelling in early childhood education. This full time study course comprises a variety of subjects and student activities, such as;

• Puppet theatre festival• Musical narratives • Literature, Psychology and Philosophy• Digital and Virtual Storytelling• Aesthetics and Innovation

The student will explore a wide range of didactical possibilities of creative storytelling in teaching and social education via aestheti-cal activities, psychological and philosophical approaches and literary perspectives.

PEOPLE WITH SPECIAL NEEDS 20 + 10 ECTS

The student will gain insight into different target groups with special needs and also learn about the Danish kindergarten tradition. The student will be introduced to different working methods as well as ethical and human rights issues. The course introduces different professional traditions, which provides a platform for comparative methods and analyses, and furthermore includes fieldwork, creative workshops and nature pedagogy. The intercultural classroom provides the student with an opportunity to challenge his or her own traditions and knowledge and develop skills in intercultural understanding and communication.

CHILDHOOD IN A NORDIC PERSPECTIVE – A DANISH SETTING 20 + 10 ECTS

Discover how children learn and develop through activities that integrate play, movement, nature and outdoor educa-tion in a Nordic pedagogical tradition. Learn about experien-tial learning and sustainable living in Denmark and Norway. Organizing courses and activities for the 0 to 12 year olds, using didactical theory and reflection. The course focuses on hands-on activities, on the combination of theory and practice and includes fieldwork and a studytour to another Nordic Country, with its different surrounding landscapes, a different setting for play and experiental learning. The course is organized in collaboration with HiOA, Norway.

WELFARE AND HEALTH TECHNOLOGY - SOLUTIONS PROMOTING HEALTHNursing Science, Physiotherapy and Psychomotor Therapy Education

10 ECTS

Welfare and Health Technology is an important international is-sue as it plays a vital role in improving nursing, personal care and rehabilitation procedures worldwide.

This course equips the student with the competencies to actively integrate technology into his or her future professional lives. It explores the ethics, use and implementation of Welfare and Health Technologies from an international perspective and in dialogue with field researchers and companies who design and produce the technology.

EMBODIMENT AND COMMUNICATION NURSING SCIENCE, PHYSIOTHERAPY AND PSYCHOMOTOR THERAPY EDUCATION10 ECTS

The course focuses on the meaning of Embodiment and commu-nication, as part of relation and practice between health profes-sionals and citizens. The citizen-centered perspective will be ana-lysed from different perspectives using qualitative methodology, with the intention of uncovering how health professionals can interact and practice in relation with the citizen, focusing on con-text and best practice. The effect of citizen-centered perspective and knowledge hereof will be analysed against the professional practice to get better understanding of health professional inter-vention and relation, and to qualify the mono- and cross profes-sional practice, nationally as well as internationally.
