I INTERNED WITH AN ENGLISH TEACHER. MORE THAN SIMPLY AN EXCHANGE OF LANGUAGES, THERE WAS AN EXCHANGE OF CULTURES. THE STUDENTS WERE CURIOUS ABOUT HOW THE U.S. DIFFERS FROM CHILE, AND THEY LOVED ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT THEIR COUNTRY. I HAD A GREAT EXPERIENCE, AND SUGGEST IT TO ANYONE THINKING ABOUT A TEACHING CAREER. UCEAP CHILE RETURNEE STUDY BILINGUAL EDUCATION ABROAD CHILE • Pontifical Catholic University of Chile Access a wide range of courses in teaching methods for all fields (the university has its own education major). For instance, take a seminar on teaching science to elementary schoolchildren, or intern directly with teachers. Internships are available in schools of all levels throughout Santiago. MEXICO • Field Research Program Work one-on-one with a specialist at the Universidad Pedagógica de Oaxaca. Professor Patricia Mena specializes in sociolinguistics and bilingual education, also supervises research on questions of gender, education, migration, and ethnicity. Research and internship placements are available in classrooms in local communities. SPAIN • University of Granada The education department has an excellent program in Primary Education Teacher Training that offers an entire curriculum in English as well as many courses in Spanish. An emphasis on bilingualism makes this a welcoming opportunity for California students. SPAIN • Autonomous University of Barcelona This is a complete program in education with a variety of coursework in theory and pedagogy.
