    Ascending the Heights

Discerning Gods Will for our Lives

    Step 26

Among beginners, discernment is real self-knowledge.

Discernment is recognized to be a solid understanding of the will of God in all times, places

    and things.

Many roads to holiness and hell.

When our thirst for water causing us to pant equals our desire for knowledge or grasp of the

good and divine will of God, then we see His will.

We must mortify our own will first.

Immediate desires of man vs. true need as determined by Gods will.

Will of God is not dependent upon human impulses.

Spiritual struggle not meant to be easy.

God is not unjust. He will not slam the door against the man who humbly knocks.

An active soul is a provocation to demons, yet the greater our conflicts, the greater the

    rewards.

    Learning How to be Still

    Step 27

We are like purchased slaves, like servants under contract to the unholy passion.

Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which

God has prepared for those who love Him. ( 1 Cor. 2:9 )

Stillness may be equated to peace in the soul- the absence of spiritual warfare and the

    presence of calm.

When we first embrace spiritual life, we are unaware of how little peace there is in our souls,

let alone whether they are peaceful.

Think about the things which rob you of your peace and destroy them.

The solitary runs away from everyone, but does so without hatred. The solitary does not

wish to be cut off from such sweetness.

Blessed is he who hopes; thrice blessed is he who lives to see the promise of being an angel.
