First of all, study in quantity( in terms of hours) does not matter...Study should be in quality...

Know your strength and weakness and plan your study according it..

Daily 4-10 hours reading cant make you knowledgeable...

Daily 2-5 hours of SMART STUDY can make huge different..

According your question I can say that you should work on foundation.. As your foundation strong you will not face any difficulty for any new subject..

Study with a purposeCan you teach this back to your classmates? Can you teach this back to a patient with no medical background? How would you use this knowledge in a clinically relevant way?

Form a study groupSet out a schedule and take turns teaching one another and going over lectures

Take scheduled breaks (e.g. 10 minutes every hour)

Break up your dayDo something completely unrelated to school (e.g. exercise, music, etc.) to break up your day and keep your mind refreshed. Going to the gym after class is a really popular way to get a fresh start on the evening studies.

Integrate your knowledgeAs a personal and group exercise, constantly try and point out ways how the current material relates to previous things you have learned. The more degrees of separation you can get to, the better. (e.g. hypomagnesemia --> torsades --> identify EKG --> what organ affected --> ventricles of heart --> what artery suppliesthem --> LAD --> what artery does that come from --> left coronary --> when is

the left coronary have maximal blood flow --> diastole --> what drug can restrict coronary blood flow --> cocaine --> what are the overdose symptoms of cocaine--> ad infinitum...)

To be clear, 12 hours a day is not that muchConscious hours per day = 17 hoursConscious hours per week = 11912 hours/day learning in and out of class = 84Time leftover = 35 hours per week

I can't say I really knew that many people in college or medical school (not counting MS4s) that had 35 hours per week to kill on errands and extracurriculars.

How to Study Effectively 8 Concentration Strategies:

Eat Frequent Small MealsAvoid eating a big meal before a study session. Too much food will send your body into a restmode. On the other hand, dont starve yourself either. Frequent smallmeals are best.

Study according to your body-clock. Are you sharpest in the morning or at the evening? Schedule your most difficult materials when you are mentally at your best, and schedule the easier ones when you are mentally less efficient.

Drink Water OftenDrink plenty of water during a study session, especially when you feel sluggish.Caffeine may help you to stay awake, but it can increase your anxiety use it inmoderation.

Dont Get Too Comfortable in Your ChairChoose a chair that supports your back. It should be comfortable, but not too comfortable. Just like an athlete during a performance, your body should be relaxed, so that all your energy goes to where it matters your brain.

Clear Your Desk of Everything You Dont NeedHave everything you need on the desk. Put away what you do not need for the study session. Seeing reminders of other assessments or domestic bills may increaseyour anxiety and distract you.

Take Breaks Every HourIt is important to take a break before you feel tired and lose your concentration completely. Regular breaks at least once an hour helps to sustain your concentration. If the work is not going too well and you have difficulties in concentrating, you may need a long break and go back to it later

Stretch During Your BreaksKnow and respect your concentration span which will vary from hour to hour and from day to day. When you sit for long periods, gravity draws the blood to the lower part of your body. When you take a break, take a few deep breaths and get more oxygen to your brain: try walking around and doing some light stretching fora few minutes. It will help to release tension in your body, and help your circulation.

Study at the Same Time, Same PlaceStudy at the same time and at the same place, devoted to study only. This helpsyou to associate the time and place with studying and concentrating. You will find that you get into a habit of studying as soon as you sit down.

    Good Luck :)

I learned at a study skills course in high school. to

    1. take 10 minute break every hour.2. take notes - active studying. highlighting, summarizing and re-summarizing until you have that which is important.3. Set goals for your studying. E.g. I should finish X chapters in Y hours.

    from my own experience

    4. if you get stuck, don't be afraid to ask a friend and/or the smartest personyou know in the class.5. If you don't understand something - try different textbooks. One may click better with you than another

    ****************************************************************

To study better, study better. Don't simply study longer. Read something, then describe it in different words to yourself. Teach it to your teddy bear. Draw thepathway out on paper. Generate 3 novel questions you have about the material th

en seek out answers to them online. When you create your own questions, you knowyou've hit a level of understanding that will stick with you for test day. Noneof this is easy, but it's very effective. Focussed studying is draining, and you won't be able to do it much more than 4-5hrs/day indefinitely.

Regarding time, I think consistency is the most important factor. Say you want to study 4 hours a day. Get a timer, and stop it for any moment when your mind isn't focussed on material. This will improve discipline and reveal to you how easily your attention can be distracted.

And by the way, medicine is one of the most repetitive fields. As the saying goes 'see one, do one, teach one'. You will figuratively 'see 100' before you do one. I didn't know that during my pre-clinical years and was totally overwhelmed.Try not to feel that way, and rather enjoy the material moving at a your own comfortable pace.

More importantly, why do you wanna study for 12 hours?IAS? See, if someone told you that the number of hours one sits with a book in front of his face is directly proportional to one's chance of clearing the IAS then let me make it very clear to you, it was the biggest lie you ever heard.Ask any of the successful candidates like Roman Saini and you'll get the same reply that its never the number of hours that matter. Even 6 hours are more than e

nough to get you through if your concentration is at its highest while studyingduring those 6 hours.Coming back to your question in a more straight-forward manner, yes, you can maybe study for 12 hours on a particular day but regularly, on a daily basis? No, Idon't think that is possible for any normal human being. Not even the one who'll be getting AIR 1. So, better stop wasting your thinking about the hours and start giving the best you can with your utmost concentration from today itself.More importantly, the way the pattern is changing, you don't need to keep sitting with a book in your hand to gain the required knowledge. Surf on the internet.Go through interesting and important articles all around on various news websites. This will not only let you gain but also act as a little break from the monotonous routine of studying from books. Times have changed so take the advantagedude! This way you might even cross your target of 12 hours and won't even reali

Here I am going to tell you 8 tips. If you follow those 8 tips then you may probably be able to concentrate on your studies.1. Understand your biological potential.Every body has its own potential. One is able to study whole night, or one is able to study at morning. This is up to you that howyou utilize your potential.2. Make a why note.

It is very difficult to make concentration for a long time to maintain your concentration for a long period of span you should make sure why note. That is you write on a blank paper why are you studying? What will be the consequences of your labour that you're going to do for one year? And then paste that paper just before your studying table this will help you not losing your concentration.3. Don't panicIf there is few days left for examination then don't panic if you are not able to control yourself then think that the time you are using to panic will not going to help you in academics. Take the time to convert your panic time to your study time.
