Study in Austria Austria is situated in the center of Europe and offers an ideal place to live and study for Hong Kong students. Its capital Vienna has been ranked as the city with the highest quality of living worldwide for seven consecutive years. The city is known as the music capital full of traditions and culture. Austria is a member of the European Union, thus all offered programmes are internationally acknowledged.

The Education System Primary Education (Volksschule) Compulsory education starts at the age of 6 and lasts for 4 years in Austria. Secondary Education Austria offers 2 levels of secondary education.

Secondary level 1 lasts for 4 years. Students can choose between lower secondary school (Hauptschule), new secondary school (Neue Mittelschule), academic secondary school lower level (AHS Unterstufe) as well as special needs schools and inclusive education.

Secondary level 2 lasts for another 4 years, with the following options: secondary technical or “polytechnical” schools (= schools preparing students for an apprenticeship or job), vocational schools and apprenticeships (dual system), vocational secondary schools, vocational colleges (3-year education), upper level of grammar schools (higher secondary schools of general education) as well as the vocational preparatory year and integrative vocational education.

Higher Education There is a wide variety of higher educational institutions in Austria. 22 Austrian universities (www.studienwahl.at/en) offer a broad range of study options for students. 6 Austrian Universities of Arts offer creative education programmes on music, theatre, film, fine or applied arts. Austria also offers 264 degree programmes at 21 Universities of Applied Sciences (Fachhochschulen; www.fachhochschulen.at). In addition, there are 12 private universities (Privatuniversitäten; www.oepuk.ac.at) and 14 Teacher Training Colleges and Institutes. Some 500 different study options are available in Austria. About 1/5 of students at Austrian universities come from abroad. Language Requirements As Austria is a German-speaking country, you might wish to attend a German-speaking study programme. Please consider that you should start learning German early enough to ensure that your German level is high enough in order to follow an academic class. Otherwise you might be particularly interested in Austrian study programs provided in English. Therefore please visit https://www.studienwahl.at/en In general, there are no language requirements valid for all universities. For the specific required language level please refer to the homepage of the respective university you are interested in.

Financial Means One year comprises two semesters, each of around four or five months. In addition, you need to take the living costs into account which might add up to approximately HK$8,000 per month. In order to help you with your living expenses and your studies in Austria, various grants and scholarships are provided at the following database: https://grants.at/en/

Residency and Visa In order to study in Austria as a non-member of the European Union, you need to apply for a residence permit for study purposes. You should hand in your application including your letter of admission at least three months before entering Austria. In addition you will have to proof your sufficient financial means, which comes up to HK$ 100,000 for students under the age of 24 and HK$ 120,000 for students above this age. Scholarships The Austrian government, many private institutions and some universities offer scholarships for students. 奧地利升學資訊

奧地利，一個充滿浪漫和多元文化氣息的國家。維也納貴為世界的「音樂之都」，充滿優良的傳統

及文化，它連續七年被列全球高質素生活城市的首位。同時，維也納亦被列為 QS Best Student

Cities的世界五強之一。雖然奧地利的官方語言為德語，但近年眾多公立和私立大學相繼開設英語

輔助課程，甚至以全英語教學，為只懂英語的學生，提供另一留學的好平台。由於奧地利政府對教

育方面全力資助，令公立大學的學費非常經濟（低於每年九千港元），私立大學的學費亦非常相宜

（平均每年低於十萬港元），生活費（包括食宿、交通、醫療保險等）平均約為每月六、七千港

元，同時大學生更可利用課餘兼職每週不多於十小時。奧地利乃歐盟國的成員，提供國際認可的課

程，絕對是適合香港及澳門學生居住及升學的一個好地方！

教育制度

小學階段 (Volkschule)

在奧地利六歲起開始必須接受四年初等教育。

初中教育

初中第一級維持四年，學生可由以下多個途徑當中選其一：

1) 中學低年級 (Hauptschule)

3) 中學 (Neue Mittelschule)

4) 初級學術型中學 (AHS Unterstufe)

5) 特殊學校

高中教育

之後四至五年高中可選擇普通教育課程和專科職業培訓課程。

高等教育

奧地利擁有眾多高等教育機構，包括綜合大學、藝術大學、應用科技大學、師範大學。學位分三

類: 學士學位、碩士和博士。

二十二所綜合大學(www.studienwahl.at/en)提供了一系列的學科讓學生選讀。如您對音樂、戲

劇、電影、純粹藝術或應用藝術有興趣，六所以藝術學科為主的大學為學生提供創意教育課程。奧

地利的二十一所應用科技大學(德語網站 www.fachhochschulen.at)，亦提供多達 264學位課程。

另外，奧地利的十二所私立大學(德語網站 www.oepuk.ac.at)和十四所師範大學亦提供優質的學術

教育。奧地利的大專教育提供多達五百個學科供選擇。大約五分之一的奧地利大學生為外地生。

學生簽證、居留許可證

在奧地利升學的人士，需申請學生身份的居留許可證。請於到奧地利前的最少三個月前辦理申請手
