Agora Energiewende Presentation „Insights from Germany’s Energiewende“ Time for questions and discussion Ttopics: energy transition:Actors and structures for climate protection through energy efficiency - a survey of the Federa energy transition l, Land and local levels

Agora Energiewende develops scientifically based and politically feasible approaches for ensuring the success of the Energiewende. We see ourselves as a think-tank and policy laboratory, centered around dialogue with energy policy stakeholders. Together with participants from public policy, civil society, business and academia, we develop a common understanding of the Energiewende, its challenges and courses of action. This we accomplish with a maximum of scientific expertise, oriented towards goals and solutions, and devoid of any ideological agenda. Agora Energiewende is a joint initiative of the Mercator Foundation and the European Climate Foundation

Guided tour Thermal Power Plant HKW Mitte

HKW Mitte: Located in the heart of the German capital,At completion, Mitte in Berlin was the most modern inner-city power plant in Europe combined heat and power (CHP) plant. Built over the site of a former coal-fired CHP, it generates 380 MW of electricity and 620 MW of heat from natural gas. Future coal plants may use gasification to convert coal into a hydrogen-rich fuel, which may eventually be used in transportation when the plant isn't making electricity and heat, according to one scenario. . Vattenfall’s Berlin-Mitte gas-fired KA13E2-2 combined heat and power plant is an example of a successful modern approach to urban power and heating requirements. Since 2004, Alstom provides service solutions under a long-term agreement. In 2008, the plant won an IGTI award for „Outstandingly Efficient Gas Turbine Operation“. In winter the plant was reaching over 90% fuel utilisation, but in summer the low requirement for district heating resulted in a need for stable part load operation with low emissions. This was a real challenge that the Vattenfall team was looking to address. In 2008, Vattenfall teamed up with Alstom to develop and test the new AEV Advanced EnVironmental burner for the GT13E2. With the new dual fuel AEV burner, Vattenfall was able to reduce NOx emissions making the plant compliant with Germany’s strict emission limits down to low levels of plant load. In 2011 the capacity of the Belin Mitte power plant was further increased, making it possible to increase the environmentally friendly CHP production. The heating plant center is participating in the secondary control.
