fter an insightful trip to High Point

Market, where designers converge to

unveil their latest home furnishings,

we recently sat down with WGSN

Network (WGSN) —

the world’s leading

trend forecasting

authority — to talk

about some of the

hottest interior

design trends and

how flooring plays a

major role.

From classic to

contemporary,

interiors that blend

old and new give a

space character while

wood continues to

take center stage, offering domestic warmth and

a refined rustic appeal. Simply put, “wood floors

make your house feel like home,” WGSN Lifestyle &

Interiors Senior Editor Allyson Rees said.

At the heart of it all,

there’s a celebration

of personal

expression in today’s

top styles. Your

design choices, from

the floors to the walls

and beyond, should

reflect you. As Rees

noted, “It’s no longer

about embracing a

cookie cutter home…

[you] want it to feel

timeless.”

Finding perfect beauty in the imperfect continues to shape lifestyle trends. We seek authenticity in home décor and design — the real, the reclaimed, the raw — and revel in the story that it conveys.

The style of embracing imperfection has given distressed hardwood and wood-look floors a place to shine as their naturally striking tones and unpredictable grain pattern radiate charm and beauty. Natural knots and cracks offer unique character. Whether real or mimicked, rugged textures and weathered finishes help create timeworn spaces and reflect a sense of craftsmanship.

New Tribeca Oak hardwood captures this sought-after authentic look and feel — it exudes originality. Rocky Coast Pine engineered vinyl plank is also a great rugged backdrop for simple furnishings and a mix of accessories to give a space an eclectic vibe.

The Scandinavian-influenced trend is increasingly popular for those wanting to create a welcoming, calm, and cozy oasis that’s functional and meaningful. Both the color and décor are soft and natural with a lot of whites, grays, and light browns.

To capture this comforting design, start with a light-colored floor. Pale

wood tones whitewashed hues fill a room with this casual and inviting style.

Overall, less is more with Scandinavian styled homes. Rooms come down to earth with wood as the basis for design. Keep it simple and keep it connected to the outdoors with a light and airy palette and natural finishes.

"Scandinavian trends are everywhere and flooring is no different. White washed floors and pale oak are very popular for their versatility and simplicity. Also with wall paneling and shiplap being such a popular trend on Pinterest renovators are looking for a range of lighter wood materials.”

Indigo is a strong décor trend that has been moving

to flooring and walls. Evolving from this vibrant hue,

Atlantic teal is growing in popularity and will be a key

color this year.

“There’s something always fresh about blue…the color

of the sky or the ocean,” Rees said. “It can really feel like

a neutral; a color that can please everybody.”

Whether you choose blue as your foundation, like

Crushed Indigo bamboo, or prefer teal as a decorative

accent or wall color, you’ll find that these ocean hues are

both vibrant and versatile, and pair nicely with brown,

gray, and white. When it comes to flooring, Jefferson

County bamboo, Steel Creek Hickory hardwood, and

Commonwealth Hickory laminate are just a few that

make a statement with blue.

According to WGSN, the industrial trend is still huge but the aesthetic is softening. Oxidized surfaces, weathered metals, and wood bring in a softness and natural component while velvety, jewel-toned fabrics add a touch of luxury.

This ongoing style incorporates elements from old warehouses and industrial buildings, like exposed brick, steel, concrete, and suspended pipes in both the architecture and décor. Wood is a key element. As a partner to these utilitarian materials, it provides an organic contrast and warms the industrial edge. The real beauty of this trend is that it blends so many textures and techniques that you can easily make the style your own.

Choose darker toned distressed wood-look floors like Copper Barrel Oak and Timber Wolf Pine engineered vinyl plank for a more rustic industrial look, or a sleek design like Cabana Gold bamboo for a contemporary chic feel.

“It’s about pulling your personal favorites from different eras and mixing them together in a way that represents your personal style,” Rees said.
